Michael Manning

Deepest condolences at this most raw time for his beloved family. Mr Manning was a significant presence for many of us attending St Conleths in the 1970s. Even in later years after retirement, he had time for all of us and showed great interest in our lives.

Mr Manning was hugely influential in my time at St Conleths (class of '95) having done both maths and physics with him. He was also instrumental in steering me in the direction of psychology at TCD in his role as 'career's advisor', starting a long and rewarding career in mental health. I will never forget his smiling face at the school as I picked up my Leaving cert results (A1 in hons Maths would not have been possible without him!).
He will be missed but not forgotten.

Dear Auntie Nancy, we send our love to you at the sad loss of Uncle Michael. I will never forget, as a kid, Uncle Michael letting me sit on his back whilst swimming, going underwater, coming back up, still with his glasses on. What a class act he was as a physics and maths teacher in the first half of the 1970s, and he turned me on to the writings of mathematics populariser Martin Gardner in Scientific American, which changed my life a lot down the road. We kept in touch, having a pint in the Yellow House every once in a while. A few years before Covid, he gave me a wonderful tour of the Pearse Museum at St Enda's in Rathfarnham. A lovely, generous an gifted man.

My deepest sympathy to'Mr. Manning's' family. A great Maths, Physics and Biology teacher at St. Conleth's my whole secondary education from 1968 to 1972. I will always be grateful for the confidence he gave me as I jumped from 5th to 6th year as my family were returning to Argentina, when i was sitting for my Living Cert. A confidence that resulted in my getting grades good enough to be accepted into Trinity. Thank you Mr. Manning.

Michael and Nancy were kind friends and neighbours to our late parents and were particularly kind when our Mam lived alone after our dad passed. Mr Manning (as we called him) was a gentleman. He pushed us to be better, to reach our potential and did so with a firm, no nonsense approach intermingled with his signature sense of humor. He certainly helped me achieve my dreams. I still talk to my own children regularly about the lessons learned in his classroom. He left an incredible legacy that will live on for many more years to come.

I am so sorry to hear of Michaels passing. He was truly gifted to teach in a manner that was so refreshing, giving those who required a bit extra, time and patience. Michael Manning had a major impact on my career and on those of several others. Such is the legacy of a great teacher. Although his wife, children and grandchildren are sad at his passing, I hope they will be proud of what he has contributed to his students and his students' students for generations to come.
