As children, Summers were not complete without a visit to Uncle Michael and Auntie Anne’s farm, where myself, Mark, and Leanna spent many happy hours in Uncle Michael’s warm and easy company. I have so many fond memories of being shown how the animals were cared for, and Uncle Michael always displayed such patience, kindness, and humour as we happily marched the narrow, grassy roads alongside the farm, sticks in hand and wellies soaked in mud.

As a man of deep faith, Uncle Michael would have appreciated that in one of St. Paul's last letters he writes, “The Lord's servant must not quarrel, but be gentle towards all”, and Uncle Michael was indeed “gentle towards all”. His humble faith was evident to all who knew him, as was his love for dearest Auntie Anne, and his remarkable son Micheál.

Uncle Michael, may your soul rest in perfect peace.
You not only completed my Summers as a child, you also made them some of the happiest memories of my life.
