running teams with my father. We always enjoyed his visits to us in Kilballyowen when he was home on holidays. They would reminisce about their running days, the many races and sports days. A man of great character and faith. May his gentle soul rest in peace

Michael was an outstanding cyclist, including All-Ireland title holder in his younger days, and always a true sportsman. He emigrated to England in 1967 where he kept up his cycling and where he also took up running as he got older. I renewed acquaintance with him some years ago when we were both registering for the Dublin City Marathon and remained great friends and in regular contact to the end.
