MICHAEL (MICK) DORGAN

On behalf of the Dorgan family, we would like to sincerely thank everyone who offered their condolences, sent messages, attended Michael’s removal and funeral, and supported us.

The kindness has been a great comfort during this difficult time and it was a true reflection of the regard in which Michael was held and the impact he had on so many people, particularly those from Nemo, a club he loved so much and with which he had such success on the playing field.

We were especially touched by the gathering afterwards in Nemo, where stories were shared and songs were sung in his honour, particularly a few Beatles hits, his favourite band. It was a fitting celebration of Michael’s life, and he would have been over the moon to see such a turnout.

Seeing the respect and affection people had for Michael meant so much to us as a family. 1/3

Affectionately known in Nemo as “Dinky” — for his quick feet and intelligent play — to us nephews he was simply Uncle Michael.

Uncle Michael was a very generous man and a true family man.

He was adored by his five nephews — myself Michael, Shane, Eric, Ryan, Dylan and Michael — and we adored him right back. He spoiled us all and gave us memories that will stay with us forever.

From trips to Crosshaven and Glenbeigh, to Funderland on Good Friday with sweets in the car and “Yellow Submarine” blasting on the radio, to unforgettable days together at Old Trafford — there was nowhere he’d rather be than with the family.

He was a real gentle soul, never had a bad word to say about anyone, and was always happiest in the company of those close to him. He loved his music, especially The Beatles, and a good sing-song in the club.

Uncle Michael loved sport, had a brilliant mind, and even appeared on Know Your Sport, which says it all.

He was also a proud Nemo man and an outstanding footballer who enjoyed great success on the field, winning county, Munster and All-Ireland medals. 2/3

After he retired, Uncle Michael became a selector with the Nemo senior footballers, helping them to the 1993 county title and a famous All-Ireland win in 1994. He was also incredibly proud to serve as President of Nemo Rangers.

He had a brilliant football brain and a real understanding of the game, something that was recognised and respected by everyone involved with the club. Whether it was on the field, on the line, or in conversation, Uncle Michael always knew the game.

Off the field, his greatest legacy to the club will always be his role as a driving force behind the move to Trabeg — something he was immensely proud of and worked tirelessly to achieve.

Nemo was a huge part of his life, but it was always about the people — the chats, the friendships, and the time spent together.

But more than anything, Uncle Michael was about family.

We were lucky to have him, and we’ll carry those memories with us forever.
