My uncle Mick was a great character, full of life and good humour. I have a particularly fond memory of him from a mid-winter visit to Dublin when I joined his rambling group for a 20km+ "ramble" in the Wicklow mountains. I'd had a v. late night before with my cousins, but wasn't going to miss this for anything. It was a very cold day, even colder higher up, with snow on the ground and patches of horizontal sleet. Mick wore shorts because he'd lent me his long walking trousers, without even a mock complaint. A few pints of Guinness in his local in the evening got everyone warmed up after the exhilarating day out. Mick entertained with his chatter and humour throughout :) RIP Mick!

My heartfelt condolences to Mick's family. Mick gave a much appreciated contribution to farm Informatics for many years with his participation in the creation of EFITA and in a number of congresses and seminars on farm informatics. I well remember Mick's vitality, his understanding of farmers, farm economics and ICT, and of course his sense of humour. He was a faithful and reliable friend. I will miss him.

Very sorry to hear of the death of Michael. Have known him and Niall since I was very young in Monkstown. My parents were v good friends of his parents Charlie and Nora. I remember being in their home many years ago. Great times. As a 10 or 11 year old, I remember underground tunnels and chambers across the road from The Lodge on Monkstown Grove. All built by Mick. Haven't met Mick since Nora's funeral, who was 102 when she died. Was aware that recent years were difficult with Parkinson's disease. Condolences to all Michael's relations at this sad time. Vincent Mc Gloughlin (late Richmond Ave, Monkstown)
Mick ..an indomitable spirit against all adversity and infinite mine of wit and anarchy.

I was fortunate enough to meet Mick and Annette on a trip to Ireland with my friend Conor Kellicutt. It was the highlight of our trip, a visit to their home and spectacular garden, then a night on the town where Mick entertained us with witty banter and stories of time spent with Conor’s late father here in the States. I was lucky enough to see Mick again in San Francisco, still exuding his warmth and charm, I will remember the twinkle in his eye that sparkled whenever he told a story. My condolences to Annette and his family, he was a treasure to be sure.
Very sorry to hear the sad news. Our deepest sympathies and condolences to Annette, Niall, Miki and Una and all the extended family.

A great friend and character since our early days in Johnstown Castle and his visits to west Cork over the years.
Annette and all the Harkin family, I was so sad to hear of the death of Mick. He was a great friend of my late husband, Maurice. They grew up to get her and from what they told me had great fun in their teens. Mick was at our wedding in 1967 and at Maurice ‘s funeral five years ago. He was a lovely person and a great pal to Maurice. Thinking of you all and send best wishes. Alice Devitt

Annette and all of Micks family.
I send you all my deepest sympathy on Micks death. I had a great liking and fondness for Mick since he, Alice O’Donoghue, others and I set up the Agri-It society
called ISITA in 1996. It was a new organisation led by Mick in the earlier stages of IT in agriculture. We did very good work and all of it was fun because of Mick Harkin. He also gave us European networks we just did not have then. What a great guy who gave us laugh every Friday for years with his various missives. May Mick rest in peace
