Mick was a lovely principal to work with. He was always kind, understanding and fair. Anne and I liked him very much and enjoyed his little visits over the years to Glenreigh. He was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed. We share our sympathies with Joan and family.

My sincere sympathy to all Mick's family on the loss of a great man. I knew Mick as a teaching colleague over many years and he was great company. We enjoyed chats, meetings, debates and futile efforts at playing tennis!! with another great colleague Tom Russell, also gone to God. May they rest in peace
My deepest condolences to all of the Hassett family and especially my old classmate Aidan, on the passing of Mr. Hassett. He was a lovely gentleman and inspired us to be scholars like himself. May his gentle soul rest in everlasting peace.
My deepest condolences to you all on the passing of Michael. He was an outstanding principal who shaped the lives of so many of us, and I will always remember the positive influence he had during my school years. His legacy lives on in the values and direction he gave to his students. You should be extremely proud of the wonderful husband, father, and grandfather he was, and of the lasting impact he leaves behind. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.
I am greatly saddened to have belatedly heard this news. Mr Hassett was a cornerstone of all our formative years growing up in Killenaule in the 80s and 90s. He was the only Santy I ever saw to have arrived on the back of Massey 135 wearing a duffelcoat and thick rimmed glasses (they may have been an earlier iteration of his trademark green Wellingtons on display too) over his red tunic to usher in Christmas 1982 in what then known “as the new Tech”. I can still see in my minds eye the maroon coloured Peugeot pulling up at the school and a clatter of Hurleys and sliotars falling in his wake. He was a decent man, a great educator and a marvellous Gael. I’m very grateful for the chances in life and the doors opened to me by the foundations laid by Mick and his colleagues in the Tech. Where it not for him our community in Killenaule, Slieveardagh and beyond would all be the worse off. He let the light in. Mo comhbhrón chuig a bhean chéile agus do Aiden, Eoin, Oonagh agus Eimear. Fear uaisleacht lán le cineáltas ab ea Mick. D’fhág sé lorg buan ar ár ceantair - Ní fheictear a léithéad ann arís le fada an lá.
Condolences to all the Hassett family and extended family on the sad passing of Michael. R.I.P

The understated but effective leadership of Mick Hassett underpinned an ethos that inspired a whole team of teachers to go above and beyond for their students, and I count myself lucky to have completed my time in Scoil Ruain on his watch.
Eimear may recall being dragged to school at his behest one evening to share her UCD experience with yours truly – just one of thousands of examples of individual kindness he showed those around him.
Sincere sympathy to the entire Hassett family

My sincere condolences to Eimear, Greg and the Hassett family on the passing of Mick.
I will always remember him as a kind man who did not raise his voice to be heard, who offered an ear to listen, and who made himself available to hear what his students had to say.
I have one stand-out memory of Mr Hassett stepping in to cover an Irish class for our teacher, and instead of telling us to put down our heads and read our textbooks, he started talking to us about the importance of the Irish language and the importance of lifelong learning. He was truly a man dedicated to his vocation.
May he rest in peace
