So sorry to hear about the sad passing of Mick. What a loss to music, Callan and Kilkenny. A superb talent from whom music flowed effortlessly. Memories of the Callan Variety Concert come flooding back where I had the honour of playing with him or trying would be more apt! But his patience with us novices was another of his honourable qualities and his wonderful guidance will never be forgotten. Sincere condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to Michael’s family on his sad death. He was a true gentleman and great musician whom I first heard playing the piano so expressively in the Newpark Hotel over 35 years ago. Little did I know I was about to meet him the following day as the organist in Callan Church when I was there to discuss the church organ. Following the installation of the historic pipe organ to Callan Church, Michael and I became friends and I always looked forward to returning to Callan each year to meet up with him when we tuned and serviced the “new”church organ, of which Michael was so proud and to which he gave over 40 years of dedicated service playing at Masses and liturgies each week. Musically he had a very sensitive ear and played accordingly, always appreciating the instrument he had to play. No trip to Callan was complete without a cup of tea or lunch somewhere nearby to catch up on his many musical activities and just enjoy his company.
Michael, on behalf of so many, thank you for your many years of wonderful music making. May the Heavenly Host welcome you warmly and make sure there’s a least one decent grand piano or pipe organ for you to make music and continue your music ministry in Heaven. Rest in peace and rise in Glory.

I first met Michael Hayes in 1968 and he was a true gentelman, true and true,He played the piano at the time of Ross Conway's best years,and he was up there with the best of them, May He Rest in Peace.
