Deepest sympathies to John, Michael, Marie and their families on your loss.
Mick was a fantastic teacher, charismatic, erudite and a true gentleman. News of his death has brought back many fond memories - he taught us how to be critical and tolerant, and that education isn’t just about exams.
They just don’t make them like him any more and he will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Sir.

Great memories of a brilliant teacher who's words still come to life in the geology and geography of the world around us. Also today I remember a story he told that ended with the apt and typically finely tuned phrase,
'Have boots. Will travel.'
'Have boots. Will travel.'
Sincere sympathy to all the Loftus family on the passing of Mick.i remember the first day he walked into our class. With black hair and fringe he reminded me of Paul Mc Cartney of the Beatles.i remember one morning he walked into class with his books under his arm.The material on top of his desk was worn and loose. One of the pupils put the cut corner only of a pound note under the material with the green part of the note visible.Mick grabbed it,thinking it was a full pound note.we had a great laugh, mick had a big smile. He was a great person.A great teacher who had a great interest in all his students.I liked his style of teaching. May Mick rest in peace.

Your Dad (and dear Mum) were lovely neighbours in Tully and I have fond memories of him watching us play the odd game of football, golf, tennis (whatever was current on TV)….and always with enthusiasm and a warm smile on his face.
As many have said, Mick was a legend in Kildare, almost as legendary as two of his most loyal friends, Beart and Mark.
Such a sad loss for you all; I hope you can find some comfort knowing he’ll be resting easy with Cora.

Rest easy now Michael ….
Rest easy now Michael ….
I am heartbroken at the passing of my dear brother-in-law Michael or as we all called him Uncle Mick. A man with immense knowledge of so many subjects, a man who could hold your attention with the ease with which he imparted his knowledge, his wit, his story telling, and above all his hearty and warm laughter at a good joke or funny story. His love for his native County Mayo and in particular Mayo Football, was limitless, and I personally spent hours talking to him and analysing where things went wrong and sure they would definitely have won an All Ireland if they had done all the things that Mick and myself had planned. But it was not to be . We will all miss him so much, the last man standing of a family of 10. May he rest peacefully in Heaven with his beloved Cora and all his family who have gone before him.
We extend our deepest sympathy to Michaels daughter Marie, Son’s John and Michael ,daughter in law Jean, Grandchildren, Sister in Law Julie and to all Michael's extended family. We have lovely memories of Michael on his many visits to kildaree where there was always great welcome and friendship over the years .May his soul rest in the peace of heaven amen.
