My deepest condolences to Mick’s family and many many friends.
It is heartbreaking to know I will never get my Christmas day text from Mick again or be slagged out of it the rest of the year by him.
He got a beautiful send-off today and he would have been so proud of the words young Mya said and the very eloquent words from his close friend Noel – I don’t think Mick could have been summed up better ‘ solid bloke’ – there is not a better description.
A pure gentleman, a complete professional, just a top man.
RIP my friend – you will be missed by many.

I admired Mick greatly as a photographer and often envied the reporters who had him at their side. I will really miss crossing paths with him on jobs and the fits of giggles that came from being in his company. He enjoyed the craic, but still always managed to get the scoop.
Sincere condolences to his loved ones and all those who were lucky enough to know him. Rest in Peace, Mick.

My sincere condolences to Mick’s Son Karl and all his family. May he rest in peace 🙏
Sincere condolences to Mick's family and friends. He was such a lovely guy and a pleasure to meet on a job or PPI events.
Sincere condolences to Mick's son Karl, his family, friends and colleagues. I had the pleasure of working with Mick over the past 20 years but particularly in recent years. When my children were younger, I'd often see him at the DDSL games around Dublin, it was something he also loved doing and he would give me any photos he captured of my children in action. He was so reliable, a great time keeper, always prepared, never missed the shot because he kept at it until he got it and never gave up. We got some really great scoops together, but a scoop is not a scoop without the shot - Mick was the man for this. We talked and laughed for Ireland as you do on those long jobs watching and waiting. He was keen to get the best out of his work and was always preparing for the next job. Mick also loved a good laugh and when you would see him, he greeted you with that big smile or giggle. It is very hard to take in that he has lost his life so tragically when he had so much more to give. He will be deeply missed around the place. Thank you for everything Mick. Rest in peace. Thoughts are with your family, friends and your colleagues in the Star & Mirror. You were one of the best. xx
Condolences to Micks family, friends and colleagues. May he rest in peace.
Very very sorry indeed to hear of Mick's death. I knew him for many years through his involvement in motorcycle road racing. Sincere sympathy to his family. May he Rest In Peace.
To Micks family and friends, Our sincere condolences for your loss.
I was deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of my Buddy Mick .
My sincerest condolences to all of Mick’s family, friends, PPI Photographers, and his many fellow motorcyclists friends on his sudden and heartbreaking loss. Mick was a true gentleman — always full of wit and banter, with a warm smile that lit up every job we were on together .
When we worked side by side on shoots, there was always friendly competition between us, trying to outdo each other for the best news image. I have to admit, more often than not, it was Mick who came away with the winning image.
Beyond photography, we spent some time talking about motorcycles — a shared passion for many years. Mick had planned to come down to Kerry for a ride-out with me and some of the lads, something I was really looking forward to.
He will be missed so deeply by all who knew him.
May he rest in peace.
PS : I hope his family will enter his 2025 pictures into the 2026 PPI awards . He showed me one of them a while back and it was a great News Picture >> I'd say its a winner >>

Sincere condolences to the O’Neill family at this time.
I worked with Mick on and off over the last ten years doing showbiz for the papers.
He wasn’t always fond of the lighter stuff and there was always one particular event every year we both weren’t fans of covering - but Mick always made it fun. He’d turn any bad situation into something good, usually at the expense of me having to pose beside something ridiculous.
I always felt safe when I worked with Mick. And he was always great for advice on whatever the problem of the month was.
When I suffered my own grief earlier this year, Mick provided me words of comfort that I was so appreciative of.
My sincere condolences to Lorraine, Karl, Mya and Kai. There is a huge community ready to support you all. RIP Mick.

My sincere sympathies to Mick's family. Three weeks ago I met him for the first and last time, as it has unfortunately turned out, while we were both reporting separately on a job in Co Kilkenny. We chatted for around 30 minutes or so, and I came away with the lasting impression of a gentleman, who cared about and respected people, loved his family, his work, fun and life. May he rest in peace.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Mick’s passing. He was a real pleasure to work with—always professional, dependable, and generous with his time. But more than that, he had a great sense of humour and always enjoyed the craic.
Mick was a top-class photographer, recently recognised with a Press Photographers Ireland award for his beautiful image A Wet Day Out, capturing a family running through the splashing sea on Howth Pier. I had the privilege of working with him recently in Kerry, where he took what I truly believe will become the news picture of the year.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and worked with him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues at this challenging time.
