So sad to hear of the passing of Mikie. Fond memories of playing with him for Moygownagh many years ago. A wonderful fetcher of the ball at midfield- if you kicked it out anywhere towards him, you knew it wasn't coming back in again.
Like all great players he was a gentleman on and off the field.

Mikie (as he was fondly known) was a much-valued and respected member of our community. He was held in high regard by all who knew him, as a very hardworking farmer, a good neighbour and a friend who could always be called on in a time of need. Mikie was a very sociable person and liked nothing better than to discuss at length the local and national politics and the ups and downs of Moygownagh and Mayo GAA. More recently he joined the Moygownagh Ramblers and was a great addition to the group.
Mikie Mulligan was widely regarded as one of the finest footballers to ever come from Moygownagh. It is often spoken about players from a different generation that would have graced the modern era and coming from those who played alongside him and those who had the pleasure of watching him agree unanimously that Mikie was one of those.
He played mid-field for many teams including St Cormacs, Ballycastle, Crossmolina and Moygownagh and played football when the game was played hard and the rules more loosely interpreted.
Mikie played midfield alongside Billy Heffron and Frank Finnerty at full forward from Moygownagh against Kiltane in a North Mayo semi-final and Mikie more than held his own against the great Johnny Carey. Mikie and his family were always been there to support our club and the wider community in all ventures. Michael's sons James and Sean are key members of our Club and their many successes with our club were always a source of pride for him. May his Soul rest in peace.
