Sorry to learn that Mick had passed away. Born the same year and involved with the same sport, we saw a lot of each other in the early 1960's. Mick was one of the finest guys you could meet. Kind condolences to his family and friends.

Sincere condolences to the Murphy family on the sad death of Michael. May he rest in peace. He was an excellent Garda colleague who in his teenage years excelled as a talented and gifted footballer for the Carmelite College and continued to show these skills for Westmeath at many levels as well as his native Ballymore. I have special memories of Mick playing in the National League Semi Final in 1969 against a star studded Kerry team who won with a late Pat Griffin goal. May the Angels lead you to Paradise.

As a 15 years old Mick played in a Leinster final with Carmelite College. He served his native Ballymore & Westmeath for many years on GAA playing fields.

Had the great honour and pleasure of interviewing Mick for the Westmeath Topic almost 25 years ago. I remember him as a great defender for the county in my childhood. Found him to be a lovely unassuming man when we met. RIP
