Memories of Michael by Bridget Osmond ( nee Pearson)

I can remember the first time Michael came to Hurlbutt Place where we lived in South London. Claire and I and Jackie Payne were playing out on the street when he asked where Mrs Pearson lived. We didn’t know who he was but mum was so pleased to see him. She told us he was our cousin and she was his godmother. I was 12 or 13 at the time, so thus would be 1956 or 57. He became a regular visitor thereafter and we all got on so well with him. He was actually mum’s first cousin.

His brothers Oliver and Robbie played Hurling at the time; I think for the London Irish. I do remember we all went to a match in Carlow when I was 15 and had just started work, so that would be 1960.

Then Michael met the love of his life, Marlene, married and they spent so many happy years together. We all stayed in touch over the years and I am so sad to say goodbye.
— Bridget Osmond (nee Pearson)
Michael was a truly wonderful man - very gentle, always smiling and always shaking my hand whenever we met. He was a great presence at Masses and book clubs and he will be sorely missed - condolences to Marlene and all of their family - may he rest in perfect peace

Dearest Michael

No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say goodbye,
You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why.

Thank you for the times we had together
Your Cousin
