He built a life, built a family, built a future, in spite of what befell Michael in his youth.
That anger probably was held in check by the love he held in his heart.
A man passed away, and we are the sadder because of it.

Condolences and sincere sympathies to the family and friends of former Mayor of Clonmel, Michael O’Brien. He was a courageous public representative who, while privately carrying his own cross, stood up for the town of Clonmel, for those who were in difficulty and those who were less fortunate in life. MICHAEL HAD A GREAT SENSE OF value and presence and fight. HIS FUNERAL should have been aired live on RTE. I thank God for him who rose out of the ashes such a dark childhood. Finding the straight to say what he said. It took hugh courage and vulnerability on his side. To his family i send my love and i hope you all know everyone is very proud of your Dad. X

I am so sorry to hear the sad news about Michael, when I saw you on RTE that night I saw that little 8 year old and my heart broke for you, I met Michael on the March for one in four and we were asked to bring a pair of children’s shoes and Michael didn’t have any so I gave him one of mine as we walked to Leinster house and there was hundreds of small shoes a symbol of all the children in Ireland who were aboused. God bless you Michael no more pain,safe in the arms of Christ thank you for helping so many of us, gone but never forgotten ❤️

It is with great sadness that i learned of the passing of an absolute gentleman Michael O Brien. Michael was a fearless champion of the downtrodden and abused in our society. Michael shone a tremendous beam of light into the cesspit and vipers nest of some of the so called pillars of society who wallowed in same. He was a brave courageous human being who knew the difference between right and wrong unlike some of the educated so called pillars who caused nothing but misery and suffering to the less fortunate in society. Many thanks for your 100%endevors and for shinning that beam of light. History and the kind people of Ireland will be kind to you and your Memory. You will not ever be forgotten . My condolences to all of Michael’s family and friends. I will never forget his words on questions and answers. I often think about him and how brave he was and how well he spoke under such emotion. It was powerful and I think, of all the depictions of what went on, those words for the few minutes that he spoke, gave us all a stronger understanding of the absolute horrors that went on than anything we had ever seen or heard. I hope he gets the peace that he so truly deserves. They were all precious children who deserved love and care and to be nurtured but instead were placed in the hands of evil. Michael will never be forgotten.
