In my eyes , Michael. O Carroll was a legend, I would put him in the same producer gang as Ian Mc Garry, Peter Canning, Johnny Williams and a few others.. They were good at their job but most importantly, when directing big OB crews, they had a good way with people and got the best out of them. I loved my hurling chats with Michael and when I saw himself and Joan were the production crew on a weekend, I knew it was going to be a fun gig. You have left me with lots of wonderful memories Michael, RIP

My sincere sympathies to the. OCarroll family on the death of Michael.He was responsible for filming the first Donegal International Rally when I was the first secretary of the fledgling Donegal Motor Club back in 1972.He was a true gentleman and will be sorely missed.

Michael was a recognised giant in the field of broadcasting, and we wish to record our appreciation for his contribution to the promotion of all forms of motorsport, including karting. The motorsport annual was a particular highlight each Christmas and part of a fitting legacy.

Michael has been referred to here as an icon of Television Outside Broadcasting in Ireland.

TVM had a longstanding working relationship with Michael, he was the Director on TVMs first Sports OB - Tennis circa 1987.

We went on to work with Michael on many other OBs over the years, and it came full circle when we were with Michael on his last OB during President Obamas visit to Moneygall.

Michael was a great Director, a gentleman and a great friend of TVM.

Great memories of many years of Micheal's productions of athletics in Ireland and at many venues worldwide. Of particular note his spectacular production of the Yoplait/Dublin straight mile in the 1980's. Deepest condolences.

Deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Michael, a truly wonderful journalist and trailblazer in the formative years of RTÉ. Our sincerest condolences to Michael’s family, his sons, daughter, extended family and friends. I first met Michael in New York in the ‘70’s, where he had relatives, and he was enthralled by the motor racing circuit there. The sports departments of the major networks were also of great interest to him. May he rest eternally in the Lord’s Heavenly Kingdom. Go raibh leaba aige i measc na Naomh go deo na ndeor.

Saddened to see of Michael’s passing, I worked with him on many RTE outside broadcasts through the years. But most of all he facilitated pit access for me at F1 in Monaco and Imola where he introduced me to the late Eddie Jordan. RIP Michael.
