Dear Aunty Eileen, my cousins, and your families,

I was very sad to hear the news about Uncle Mick.

Even from Australia, Mick was a constant and comforting presence. The annual Christmas cards from Tralee were always a delight and truly reflected his thoughtful nature.

My visits to see him were a highlight of my trips to Ireland. I will always treasure the meetups where his incredible knowledge, great humour, and joy for life shone through.

Mick’s kindness and quiet strength will be greatly missed. You are all in my thoughts.

Uncle Mick was a huge character. Someone I could admire from afar but who, in person was larger than larger in life. He was kind enough to engage in small talk if that was what you needed, but ultimately he wanted to know where you were at, and more importantly how you could do better. Any conversation I had with him left me walking away thinking. That was his power; a quiet wisdom that made you ponder.
I still think of things he said to me years ago and I can’t think if there’s a better legacy than people being affected by your words. For this reason he shall always be with me. Godspeed Uncle Mick, your wisdom will always live inside me.
