Hi, Úna, and family,
My sister Vera McAteer (R.I.P.) was a colleague of Michael's in Caritas College and I know she had high respect for him.
He was very supportive to all of us (Vera's sisters), when she died in 2018. One thing stands out, that a good teacher's life goes on giving, for generations. Although his life was too short, he gave a lot and I hope , Úna, you and your family can find comfort in that. Ar dheis Dia go raibh a hanam.

Mr. Tierney Was my Bus. Org teacher from 1981-1984 in Caritas College. We all loved him!!
A Really nice Genuine caring man.
He always made you feel cared for & He was eager for you to learn as he was so passionate about his teaching.
Although I work in social care I do the petty cash.
I owe my Current accounting skills to him.
I still smile & remember his voice when I write c/f or b/f
He was a very patient man to us teens.
May your memories with him wrap you in comfort & bring many smiles to your face as he did ours.. We were blessed in knowing him.

The lovely ceremony held to celebrate Mr Tierney's life, was such a beautiful tribute befitting a man, admired, loved and missed by so many. The words of love spoken by you all, his beloved family are a true testament to the legacy of kindness, compassion and family values he leaves with you. Remember his words of wisdom, may they guide you through the difficult times ahead.

Our deepest sympathy to Una, Leah, Sarah and Cormac on the loss of your beloved husband and father Michael. To the Tierney girls and extended family also our deepest sympathies. Michael was steadfast, sensible and had a great sense of humour. He was deeply loved by his sisters and he loved you mad bunch right back. RIP Darling Michael you will be forever missed.

I was shocked to hear of Michael’s sudden death last week. Michael was a staunch member (and precious Tenor!) of the Third Day Chorale. Every Wednesday night he would arrive well ahead of the rehearsal time to open the building, start setting out the chairs and assemble the keyboard. He never complained and was always in a good mood. Thank you Michael for contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the rehearsals and for your support of the choir in many ways.
While naturally quiet and soft spoken, Michael nevertheless made sure his opinions were heard and, as a result, I adapted my choice of music to accommodate his taste. It was important to keep my best Tenor happy!
Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing. May he Rest in Peace.

My heartfelt condolences to Michael's family. I began directing the Third Day Chorale in January and Michael was always early to help set up the venue. I am honoured to have knowN Michael who's life was o too short. He will be greatly missed at rehearsal.

My sincere Condolences to Mr Tierney’s family.
I was a student of his at Caritas back in 1982. He was such a lovely teacher, so calm, patient and kind. Everyone loved him.
My lasting memory of him is on a school trip to The Aran Islands , with 30 teenage girls, and Mr Tierney holding each of is one by one, by our jeans waistband as we lay flat on our tummies dandling over the edge of the cliffs at Dun Aengus so that we could look down as the waves crashed into the cliffs. Nerve wracking, exciting and scary all at the same time!!

Deepest sympathy to the Tierney family and all colleagues of Mr Tierney. I had the privilege of having him as my business teacher for 6 years. He was always such a kind and gentle man and no doubt he will be sadly missed by all.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Tierney. I have such great memories of him. He was so kind and patient with us for many years. I still use things he taught me everyday. Mostly I remember the great respect he showed all the pupils. A truly gifted teacher to respect a bunch of 13 year olds and never loose his temper when all we were doing was trying to try his patience. Condolences to his family and colleagues at Caritas it's unlikely he will ever be replaced.

Michael was a wonderful colleague and friend to us all in Caritas. I am forever grateful to have had the privilege of working with him over the years. Michael was ever calm and wise, sincere, witty and so kind. Deepest sympathy to Una, Leah, Sarah, Cormac and the extended family.

I am raising a cup of tea in honour of Michael , as I have such a clear memory of him always welcoming me with the offer of a cup of tea and a warm smile - Michael was a truly great man with sincere kindness in his heart and a very fine sense of humour - Michael has always been a wonderful husband to Una - theirs has been a truly happy marriage and Michael has also been the kindest of Fathers to Leah, Sarah and Cormac.
Michael was a very contented man who had a great understanding of life and love.

A beautiful service for a beautiful man. Thank you to Michael's family for letting his cousins in England be a part of it. Please God comfort Michael's wife and children, such a lovely family, and his sisters, our lovely cousins, who were also so much a part of Michael's life.
Not many of us can claim to have a life so well lived as yours Michael. Thank you for your example. Thinking also of Aunt Ka and Uncle Gerry on this day and all the happy times we spent with them.

To Una, Leah, Sarah and Cormac I just want to say how sorry I am . I know you will really miss him, he was a great guy. When I was a kid, I used to be a little in awe of my cool, big cousin, and much too shy to speak to him! As I got older I got to know what a really decent, kind and funny person he was. He was one of the good guys.

I was privileged to have spent my entire teaching career with Michael and he inspired and supported me throughout our many happy days in Caritas College.
Like Michael I taught Business and Maths and I’m really struggling to find the words so you can really understand what Michael meant to the Caritas family.
The kind words of many of Michael’s, both past and present, students really sum up the huge contribution and influence he had on so many.
In the staff room Michael was the quiet gentleman who was always calm and reassuring when advice was needed. His quick wit and humorous responses will be missed by all who were privileged to spend time in his company. Lunchtime will never be the same in Caritas because nobody could make the cup of tea like Michael.
Michael I hope you are enjoying your cup of tea in heaven and stirring the cup like only you could.

There are some teachers that stay in your heart and Mr Tierney was one of them. A kind, gentle, patient & encouraging teacher who always had a smile on his face. He always took his time to explain or chat if you had any questions. He was so helpful, friendly and approachable. It's amazing to see all of the wonderful messages.
I remember bumping into him at the 40th anniversary for Caritas and he was full of chat and smiles. Ever the gentleman.

Michael was a respected and admired colleague. I sat beside him in our staff room since I started in Caritas 5 years ago. He always greeted you with a smile. He was a mentor for both staff and students. I will miss our chats before school in the mornings and at coffee breaks. I will miss his sense of humour. Mr Tierney was a wonderful teacher, He taught me accounting and i got an A, my only A and he inspired me to go on and study accounting in college

Mr Tierney was also a wonderful teacher to me. He supported me so much when I went back to repeat my leaving cert. He was also a huge support when I was in Caritas college on my college placement. I always remember him saying to me Zoe you know you can call me Michael and I said ok Mr Tierney.
He will be forever missed , a true gentleman .

Time to say Goodbye It is with a heavy heart that I try to find the words to express the great loss I feel at the sudden passing of my dear friend and colleague , Michael Tierney . We began our teaching careers together in Caritas College over 30 years ago and during those years there was a lot of fun and laughter . He was an integral part of the Caritas family and a calming presence in difficult times . He was a wonderful teacher who held a genuine regard for his pupils and for the staff and he will forever be remembered as part of the legacy of Caritas .Michael was a true gentleman, in every sense of the word and his loss leaves a huge void in the lives of all who knew him .
