Allow me to express my deepest condolences. Michael was someone I knew over many years in UCD and he was a gentle, kind and visionary man. His memory will live in those of us who had the privilege to have met him.

I extend my condolences to Jean, Sam, and Alexandra on the loss of Michael. I well remember his expertise and acuity when I worked for him in UCD computer centre. His words of wisdom were light-bulb moments for me, often of a delayed nature - his thinking was so far ahead of mine. Michael had a clear and inclusive understanding of the university and embraced all spheres of learning and research; he transcended the notion of the two cultures. Michael was truly outstanding, and I will always remember him as such, fondly and with gratitude.
I'm so saddened to hear of Michael's passing. I worked with him for many years in Kerna and he was an absolute gent. Always full of chats and a great smile! It was a pleasure knowing him and learning from him. My deepest condolences.
Jean, Sam and Alex my condolences to you on the loss of a truly lovely man. Michael always wanted the best for everyone and I will never forget just how much of a support he has been to my mum. Michael did so much for family and I loved how he used his passion for technology to keep the Walsh siblings so close. He took such a genuine interest in all of us many nieces and nephews too, I always really felt his care.

My own favourite memories of Michael centre around food, cats and his enjoyment of a spirited discussion. He had so many passions in life and there was always an interesting chat to be had.

Thank you for the opportunity to watch the ceremony online from overseas. It was beautiful and the words a real testament to how many people cared about him. Sending you love at this difficult time.
My deepest condolences to Sam and his family at this sad time. May Michael rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy Jean to you and your family xx

I was so sorry to learn of Michael’s death. I learned so much  from him as he was an extremely inclusive and generous mentor and I know I was just one of the many people who feel they also owe a lot to him. He took a big risk on me and I’m eternally grateful to him for giving me my first proper job in UCD all those years ago. Michael was genuinely interested in all our team at UCD and his gentle kind manner made him a wonderful boss and a greater friend while he ensured we always achieved the best possible results. Sincerest condolences to Jean, Alexandra and Sam on the loss of a great man.
Condolences to Michael’s family; a happy memory: Michael in Dublin 8 about 1982 when I was new to working in the UCD Computer Centre, showing off his wonderful Quad Electrostatic speaker and explaining his strategy for living on vegetarian stews.
