Michael WREN

It is my privilege that I came to know Michael, who I always knew as Mick, when he joined the classes I was teaching titled "Computers for Fun" in D.AT.E. (Dundrum Adult Training and Education) where he was a pillar of the enjoyment many of us experienced together with him in the classes for several years. We also played music a few times together. God Bless your soul Michael. May you Rest in Peace forever more. You made your mark, and we are the better for you.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Michael’s sudden death. I first got to know him through the music and singing nights in St John’s and Pio and friends in the Glenside on the Sunday night sessions. Michael was friendship itself, a most genial gentleman. Whenever you bumped into him you were met with that trademark open, friendly and warm smile. To his wife Mary and four sons, extended family and friends I extend my heartfelt sympathy. Beannacht De lena anam dilis.

Our most profound condolences to Mary and the boys. Growing up my father spoke so fondly of Mick and I understood why once we finally met years ago. When I visited Ireland with my family, Mick was the first to greet us and to welcome us into his home each time. A true gentleman and incredibly kind always. I'm thankful for the time that we were able to spend together. Especially traveling through parts of Dublin, where he pointed out some of the incredible historical sites. God rest your soul, Mick.

I was deeply shocked to hear of Mick’s passing this past week. He was a driving force behind our great club for so many years and such a great man and kind mentor to have around the place, especially in the various committee rooms over the years. He was always so proud of his boys and his family.

The Requiem Mass presided over by Canon Liam this morning, in a packed St. John's Church, demonstrated the high esteem in which Mick was held by the whole community. It was such a marvelous, well deserved tribute for a man who did so much for us all. The singing, music and the young children's music added so much to the whole ceremony. Deacon Noel's personal remembrance and his sons' poem and eulogy were so uplifting and a source, no doubt, of great consolation at this time of grief. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
