I remember Micheal from my childhood along with his brother John coming to my grandmother's shop in Mullacrew, a place where people gathered in her kitchen on Sunday afternoons for ceol, damhsa agus craic after being in the shop.

My sympathy to Rosemary and all the McKeown family on the death of Micheál. I knew Micheál through his valued contribution on Castle Roche to Louth: history and society. His essay will serve as an epitaph to a man of many talents and I was honoured to be presented by Michaél with his painting of Castle Roche on 20 November in Dundalk.

Very sad to hear of the loss of Michaél. I worked with him in PJ Carroll's many moons ago. He was one of the most talented and witty people I have ever met. I have many great memories of those days. Such a difficult time for the whole McKeown family.

I was very sorry to learn of the passing of Micheál and i extend my sympathies to his family and friends. Micheál was an integral part of Na Pìobairì Uilleann , particulary in the early years..He shared all.of his many talents and skills to further the aims of the organisation . The potrait of Dan O Dowd , painted by Micheál is on display in our reception room in Henrietta Street to this day. Ar dheis dè go raibh a anam.usual.

My heart goes out to the family at this time. The McKeown household were so warm, kind and welcoming to me growing up in Dromiskin, I remember it like it was yesterday looking in awe at Micheáls studio and getting a personal up close glimpse of the magic of his talents. Such an inspiration, such an incredible talent and a gentleman. My deepest condolences to Orla, Ronan, Gráinne, Brianán, Aoife and particularly to Oisín and Rosemary.

My sincerest condolences. Just a year ago I met Micheal through Pat McKeown at McKeown's on Clanbrassil Street. I told Pat I was researching family history in the area, and he said. "You have to meet my uncle." That led to a full day of history, stories, visits to family gravestones in Dromiskin and on Faughart and to the family homestead in Dromiskin. And now, sadly, Micheal will be laid to rest near the infamous "Yankee" McKeown. My wife Lucy and I were charmed by Micheal, and impressed by his creative genius, wit and store of knowledge (much of which he shared with us). He provided me with reams of family history, and I filled a notebook with his stories. We continued a steady email correspondence, until recently. He surely crammed a lot of life into his time on earth. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and loved ones. I was hoping to have the opportunity to visit him again in Dundalk, but that was not to be. What a sad Christmas.

I am genuinely sorry and sad to hear of Micheál’s passing. Micheál’s mother and my mother came from Carna, Co Galway and were related and good friends. It was Micheál’s cousins, Angela RIP and Lelia, who introduced me to Micheál a long time ago and I will be forever grateful for finding the ‘treasure’. He was witty, interesting, respectful, always courteous had an innate ability to capture an audience with his ‘sceáls’. I will miss the phone calls and comparing notes about our proud Carna roots.

Condolences to Rosemary, his children, brother John, sister Pat (he was so happy to tell me all about finding Pat) and to his extended family of friends and relations. Sleep soundly Micheál but keep entertaining those who were waiting for you up above. No better man.

Rosemary, I am so sorry to hear of Micheáls passing, what a huge loss you all must be feeling. I think of you both from time to time as I've that caricature he did of me on my soapbox framed and hanging in my hallway. I still chuckle as how he got me down to a t even though I'd only met him a couple of times. He came across as kind, attentive and observant. Qualities in a person hard to find these days but memorable when you do see them. No doubt he will be missed by many. Big hugs to you all, look after each other
