I was so very sorry to hear the sad news about lovely Mientje. My main memories of her are from Santa Sabina School Arts and Crafts class run by Sister Raphael on monday evenings after school. It was a small class of mixed ages from 10 years old to leaving cert age. There we learnt how to make all sorts of lovely things ranging from little leather purses and book covers to lamp shades, foot stools, fruit baskets, even decorative fire screens. It's lovely to hear that she continued to enjoy her arts and crafts throughout the years. My sincere condolences to all her family. Ann H.

I was so sorry to hear of Mientje’s death. Such a lovely woman and my idol as a young teenager. She always smiled and waved when she passed me on Strand Road driving her Hillman Imp. Condolences to Paul and all the family.

I’m very sorry to see this. I knew Mientje and her sisters in school. When I got married, we had our reception in Sutton House, then being run by Paul and Mientje - we had a pink wedding cake and Mientje decorated the tables beautifully with pink blossoms from the garden. My deepest sympathy to Paul, Rita, Maria, Liz and their brothers on their loss, may Mientje rest in peace.
