I am so sorry to hear of Monica’s passing. My sincere sympathy to Richard, Robert, Emily and all your family.
Although we were colleagues in GMIT for many years, working at opposite ends of the building, we only rarely met, but when we did, I was always greeted with a kind word and that wonderful beaming smile.
I first met Monica when Robert and my son Aaron were in the marvellous care of Mary Collins, in fact Aaron was so enamoured by the Nielsen family, that when his little sister was born, he insisted she should be called Emily. Unfortunately, the name was already taken by another family member, sorry Emily.
My thoughts are with you at this very sad time, but I am sure you have some fantastic memories to reflect on.
Rest peacefully Monica.
— Tommy Doyle

It is with deep sorrow that I learn of the passing of Monica, a cherished colleague.

To Richard, Emily and Robert, I send my heartfelt condolence.

Being around Monica was always like a breath of fresh air. She often began her day with horse-riding before work, giving the impression that she had already accomplished a day's work before even arriving on campus. Her positive and gentle spirit was deeply connected to her love for yoga, a passion she eagerly shared with others in her typically generous manner. She was a truly giving person, and both her students and fellow lecturers felt fortunate to have crossed paths with her.

Monica you will be missed.
