Your Mam was the nicest caring thoughtful wise and pleasent person to know and I used to enjoy chatting to her at the harbour when she retired. A part of Dalkey is gone with her. May she rest in peace with your Dad. On behalf of the Central Bank Angling club our deepest condolences to you all.
My condolences to Dolores, Dermot and Donal on Monica’s passing. She looked out for us all as we played around the harbour as children.
So sorry to hear this. Great lady , always great advise. Tom
I spent my boyhood summers messing around in boats at Bulloch, and Monica was a constant and reassuring presence about the place. I left Dalkey over 50 years ago on an emigrant’s boat, but just a few years ago I was revisiting old haunts and I was delighted to encounter Monica outside her blue cottage. “You won’t remember me” I said, but she did, and we had a lovely chat. Sending love to Dermot, Dolores and Donal, as well as her brother Paul, who I knew back in the day. May she rest in peace.
As a founder member of the Dalkey Sea Scouts from 1956 I have life-long happy memories of boating at Bulloch with the enthusiastic support of the Smyth family in Castle View. Monica's wise counsel and advice based on her long experience of the waters off Dalkey, the dangerous tidal currents, and the potential of our changeable weather to make it too hazardous to venture afloat were always valued by our leaders.
On many occasions a phone call from Monica warned us when heavy seas were threatening our boats on their moorings. We greatly valued her happy presence on the quayside, as she observed our comings and goings in our sailing boats and kayaks.
We extend our most sincere sympathy to Dolores, Dermot and Donal on the loss of their mother. Bulloch will not be the same without her.
May she find calm waters to truly Rest in Peace.

Sincere Condolences to Dermot, Dolores and Donal on your loss of Monica, Bullock Harbour will be a different place without Monica. May she RIP
I first met Monica in the early summer of 2019 when my wife Bronwen’s friend and Monica’s cousin Mary Walford died. Bronwen assisted Monica in tying up the loose ends of Mary’s estate and that involved a few trips out to the blue cottage at Bullock. Monica and Delores were always warm, friendly and welcoming. And she had an eye about her in that you could see her sizing you up. And on chatting with her you could also see that she was certainly nobody’s fool – indeed, quite the opposite. It would be impossible not to like her. And then there was the fight to save Bullock Harbour and all that went with it. With Monica’s passing, a whole history, tradition and way of life has left us She was so much more than just a kindly person, she was an institution throughout the wider Bullock and Dalkey area. And her spirit will fly high above that pier for a long, long time to come. My sincerest condolences to Delores, Dermot and Donal. Rest in Peace Monica.
Dearest Dolores, sending much love to you and the family on the loss of your beloved Mum. Like yourself, she was a sweetheart. Thinking of you at this very difficult time. XOX from Anne.
Very sad to hear of the passing of Monica. The most friendly face of Bulloch Harbour and always ready for a chat. A good friend of my sister Heather Thomas, who frequently visited Bulloch on boat business in the 90s. She kept an eye on my elderly parents, who went out sailing from the harbour in a small dinghy.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to her family, especially Delores. May Monica rest in her maritime peace.

Sincere condolences Delores and family, may you all find comfort in your happiest memories of your Mum. I’ve always loved the energy emanating from your gorgeous little home. It was only in recent years when I took up kayaking with ECSKC that I became acquainted with Monica & Delores. I’ve since enjoyed meeting you both across the garden wall. We’ve chatted over all sorts, from the weather suitability for fishing and kayaking, the dog, the cat, the local plans and most especially the fabulous flowers! RIP Monica. See you soon Delores, for a chat over the garden wall.

Dolores, Donal and Dermot, Monica was a gem of a person. Always ready for a chat, some advice or some local news often delivered with that mischievous glint in her eyes. I have known her since I was a young child and she was always very kind to me. In recent years, I would bump into her in Tesco and we would always stop for the chat. You will miss her very much in times to come but please know that so many people who encountered Monica over the years in Bulloch or Western Marine will have only the warmest memories of her. May she rest in peace.
To Delores and family, the past members of The Bar Bream and Shell Fishing Club, remember Monica with great fondness and appreciation for all her help and support over the years. R.I.P

Dear Dolores, Donal and Dermot,
We are deeply saddened by the death of Monica, a true legend and minder of Bullock Harbour over many years. She always found time to chat about the harbour and its future and to relive old times with her many admirers and friends. She wanted the best for the Harbour and its environs. She and Dolores always had a kind word and a welcome for our youngest son, David who adored his visits to the harbour. That was greatly appreciated.
Monica will be missed by her lovely family and her numerous friends. Hopefully, Dolores, Donal and Dermot will continue to add the Smyth unique ingredient to the harbour in the years to come.
May Monica rest in peace.

My condolences go out to Dolores, Donal, Dermot and the family: I, also, express my sorrow to hear of the passing of Monica.

I fondly remember back to the endless time I spent at Bullock in the sixties as a young teen right up to my last visit in 2017. I spent my whole school holidays there and feel privileged to have been friends with Paddy (Monica’s father-in-law), her husband Snowy, Dolores as a toddler running about the house and of course the heart and soul of the harbour, Monica herself. I was sooner in the Pa Bradley "camp" at the time, fished tons of mackerel daily, also with Chris and his father Joe and many more.

Monica will forever be remembered; may she now rest in peace.
