Monsignor Dermot Moloney

It is with sincere regret and sadness that I learned of Monsignor Dermot Moloney's sad passing ,to his family and friends I offer my deepest sympathies. The late Monsignor Dermot was so kind and helpful to us all, he was a legend in the sport of swimming, may his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

So sad to hear of Fr. Maloney's death.

I had the privilege of knowing Fr Moloney for most of my life – he was my swimming coach who became a dear, lifelong friend. It’s still a shock that he’s gone because he was always there for me, and for so many of us. He created community wherever he went, and with such enthusiasm and joy. He had a youthful lifeforce that he never lost. The world feels like a smaller place with him gone, but his huge legacy remains. I am left with the most wonderful memories of an extraordinary person who I was so lucky to know well and spend a lot of time with. Rest in Peace Dermot and thank you for everything. Deepest sympathies to his family and all who knew him. I will miss you and never forget you.

I’m very sorry to hear this news.
I was a member of Tuam swimming club in the 70’s.
Dermot was an exceptional and inspirational teacher.
He gave me and so many other’s a lifelong skill and gift which I in turn have been able to share and pass onto my children and in turn my own students.
Altogether great memories and a wonderful legacy.

My sister Nora deceased and I cycled to Cummer monastery for early mass during Lent in the 60 ‘s when Fr Dermot was a chaplain there. To Fr. Joe, the Maloneys and Farraghers, and his fellow priests, Der is a great loss to us all. I have fond memories of travelling to games in Charlestown, Roscommon, Limerick and Dublin in the late '70s when his generosity and good nature shone through.

He was with us in Crossboyne for 19 years and we always felt so honoured to have him. What a true gentleman and genuine friend to all ages. He was one whom it was always hard to say no to with his wonderful manner and infectious laugh and smile. We had some great chats and banter about football mainly when would Mayo take Sam.
