My sincere condolences to Mrs Hinds' family. She was the best teacher I ever had and her Latin and Greek classes were always fun even though she managed to get amazing results for students at the same time! Three of us did Greek for Leaving Cert the year I did it, and she asked us all to sit up the front so we were like a little family for those classes! Her love of the classics was contagious, and I still have the gifts (A book about Roman Art and another about Greek Black Figure Vases) she gave all of us in her Latin and Greek classes on our last day in Secondary School . We loved when Mrs Hinds would get distracted from the work in progress and digress into some story about her travels around Italy and Greece with her husband. Her success lay in the way in which she knew her students as well as she knew her subject material, and being in her classes felt like being on a very steady ship during my teenage years. Teachers like Mrs Hinds made me want to be a teacher myself and I hope that I can inspire some of my students in the way that she did with us. I will forever be grateful to have known her, and am really sorry to hear of her passing, despite her great age. A light has gone out in the world and I pray for her family to have the strength to carry this burden. Her funeral in other times would have been enormous. I hope that these messages here can provide some support and remind you of all the lives that she touched with the teacher and the person who she was.
My sincere condolences to the Hinds family. Mrs Hinds was a wonderful Latin teacher and a very considerate and helpful form tutor in 1B. I remember her with great affection and feel privileged to have had her presence and guidance throughout my time in Alex. May she rest in peace.
Dear Catherine and Stephen,
Muriel was a lovely kind Aunty to me and Ed and we have fond memories of our time in Goatstown on holidays, I am sorry that I can't be there, love to you both and your families and my sincere condolences
I am deeply sorry to hear about the death of Mrs Hinds. She was an amazing teacher - authoritative, rigorous and kind - and was one of the main reasons I became a classicist. One of my greatest regrets is not taking up Greek with her when I joined Alex as well as Latin! My deepest sympathy goes to her family.
My sincere sympathy to Stephen, Catherine and families. It would be so good to be able to share with you in person our many happy memories of your mum as a much loved colleague and friend, a go-to person for advice, a fount of information and common sense. My thoughts are with you all.
Sincere sympathy to Catherine, Stephen and grandchildren, on the death of
Muriel. A dear and valued colleague, Muriel was a great friend, and a direct and
stimulating conversationalist, who lived life with style and resilience.
May she rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs Hinds. She was a such an entertaining, inspirational and rigorous teacher. She was my form teacher in first year and my Latin teacher all through school. She will be sorely missed by her Latin class and 1B Alumnae. My sincere condolences to her family. May she rest in peace.
My condolences to the Hinds family. I have very fond memories of Latin class with Mrs Hinds in Alex -- she was an exacting but immensely kind teacher. I still have my Latin grammar notebooks, filled in according to her precise instructions. She also brought the classical world to life for us with her stories -- often surprisingly funny -- about her travels in Greece and Italy.
Please accept my deepest condolences to the Hinds Family and Mrs Hinds friends. I first met Mrs Hinds when I was in J6 Miss Cookes class where she taught us a very entertaining informative French class.
Sincere condolences on the death of your Mum Muriel. Muriel always kept me on my toes....we had great fun.....I miss her notes very much. May she Rest in Peace.
Mrs. Hinds was my favourite teacher and a wise and kindly influence. Never simplistic in her approach or advice, I will remember her as a brilliantly smart, witty and generous woman, rich in perceptions not just about ancient Greek but about life overall. She will be sadly missed.
It was a pleasure to have known Muriel in Alex and later to have very enjoyable encounters on outings for the retired teachers. I learned much from Muriel. She was an inspirational, kind and thoughtful person. I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Catherine, Stephen and her much loved grandchildren.
My sincere sympathy to Catherine, Stephen and their children on the loss of a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a dear colleague in Alex and our friendship resumed when Muriel came to live in Newtownpark Avenue. I had the pleasure of Muriel's company in my house in Leitrim. I have a precious memory of visiting the Shannon Pot, which she knew from visits to the area with her beloved Alfred. It was a beautiful day in May, 2017, and we heard the cuckoo. May her beautiful soul rest in peace.
So sad to hear the news. Muriel taught me in my undergraduate days in Trinity, and then I taught her when she was doing the H. Dip.; we used to greet each other: "My student!", "My student!" She was such a lovely person, and will be much missed. My thoughts are with all her family members and former colleagues.
Sincere condolences to the family of Muriel may she rest in peace. Muriel was a very special colleague in the staffroom at Alex & I have very fond memories of our many conversations.
Muriel was a wonderful colleague and dearly loved friend. It is hard to describe the wealth of knowledge and the emotional support she gave in all situations. She was meticulous, inspiring and extraordinarily kind. I loved her dearly , enjoyed many conversations, and consider it a privilege to have been her friend,
I would like to add condolences on the passing of Mrs Hinds on behalf of the Classics Department of Alexandra College. She did so much to promote a love of Greek and Latin in the College, generously shared with her successor much-needed and much-appreciated guidance, and continued to support Classics-related events in the College even in retirement.
My deepest condolences to the Hinds family. My memory of Mrs Hinds was that she made the transition from primary school to secondary school so much easier as she was such a kind Form Tutor.
My heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs Hinds. I’ve never known such a wonderful teacher. Her lessons have stayed with me years after leaving Alex. The first time I visited Rome I remember being able to name every Roman landmark due to her showing us her famous postcard collection. Her gentle insistence on excellence and love of her subject were inspirational. I’ve thought of her often over the years and mourn her loss. Rest in peace.
Dear Catherine,
So very sorry to hear of your Mums passing. Heartfelt condolences to you and family x
Rest In Peace Mrs Hinds.... a truly inspirational teacher and such a kind lady. I learned so much from her at Alexandra College and still remember her fantastic Latin classes. It was an absolutely privilege to be among her students.
Mrs Hinds was a wonderful lady, a fantastic teacher and a truly kind person. I have such great memories of Latin classes which were always interesting and so well taught. My sincere condolences to her family
Sincere condolences to all of the Hinds family on your sad loss. Your mum was an extraordinary teacher who looked for & found the best in her students. As a 1st year starting in Alex I would never have envisaged studying Latin through to Leaving Cert, but found pretty early on that I was hooked! That was almost entirely attributable to Mrs. Hinds and her amazing ability to bring Latin & Roman history to life. I have often thought of her since leaving school, not least when I find myself admiring an arch, a bridge or an aqueduct..her enthusiasm for Roman architecture was indeed infectious!. She was kind, firm but fair & genuinely interested in her students & their achievements - an inspirational lady and teacher who is and will be remembered fondly by many. May she Rest In Peace.
Muriel was a delightful, unassuming and gentle colleague.
Sincere condolences to the Hinds family. Mrs Hinds was a wonderful teacher. She was so kind and welcoming as a form tutor in first year, it really felt special to be in her 1B class. I think of her every time I see an Alpha Romeo; it always seemed apt that she had a Latin sounding car!
Muriel Hinds was a great teacher and a wonderfully kind person. I have many fond memories of learning about Roman life and history in Latin class. I will also never forget how kind she was as a form tutor.

Sincere condolences to her family.
Muriel was a delightful colleague in Alexandra College. After she retired I often met her in Superquin.
Sincere condolences to her family.
Sincere sympathies to the Hinds family on your loss. Mrs. Hinds was just a lovely, gentle person and a great teacher. I have very fond memories of being taught by her in Alex in the 1980s and more recently enjoyed chats with her at school events she attended and in the neighbourhood in Blackrock. May she rest in peace.
A wonderful and patient form teacher who helped us through first year in Alex ....
Rest in peace

Mrs Hinds was just a wonderful teacher. She brought the Classical world to life and inspired us to work hard. I have such happy memories of her classes. Latin and Greek were my favourite subjects at school by a mile and I credit Mrs Hinds with that. My sympathies to all of her family.
Deepest sympathy to Mrs Hinds family. She was a wonderful teacher and I will always remember the time she played Souxie and the Banshies record for us in Latin class. She was loved by her pupils. May she rest in peace.
Remebering Muriel, colleague in Alexandra college, often met her at the Lexicon, and she shared her passion for books and sent me a hand written list of must reads, found it recently and texted Muriel.
Will treasure it .Sincere sympathies.
Dear Catherine
Our very best wishes and heartfelt sympathy to you and the family on the loss of your mother . We both have very fond memories of her although we only knew her in her last few years .
Phyllis and Gillian
Dear Catherine and Stephen,
I am so sorry to hear that your mother has passed away. She was the most remarkable teacher- she inspired so many of us in her world class teaching of Greek and Latin. She was also very kind and caring to her students. Last year when I saw her she was still so sharp and could have beaten anyone on University Challenge! She adored you both and was very proud to tell us, her students about your academic exploits. Some of my fondest memories were the slide shows in room 22 of places of interest to the classical world that she had visited with your father. She would transport us into that world for a magical class. She was a wonderful lady .
I am so sorry for your loss. Rest in peace,
