So very sorry to read of Muriel’s death. How you will miss her. I have so very many fond memories of her over many years and the fun and laughter enjoyed in the company of the “Engineers”. Her recipes for Aga fudge and millionaire’s shortbread which she shared with me when I was a child, I still make to this day. I loved chatting with her.
The enjoyment we had extracting the dumb waiter lift from her old home in Howth and the supervision by Alistair and my father of the workmen installing it in our home in Rathmines to make sure it was done properly!! It served us well for many years.
Most of all I remember as a child when I was safely in bed listening to the hoots of laughter and the singing of all of the Engineers coming from the dining room and their enjoyment of each other’s company. What wonderful friendship they had!
Muriel was a treasure and Randall and I send our sympathy and love to you all. Carol Plunkett

John and family - Jackson would like to say how sad and sorry he is to hear of Muriel's death. He remembers all the good times spent with Muriel and Alastair and the wonderful friendship of the "Engineers", Muriel being one of them. It was lovely for him to see her about 18 months ago when she was so bright, alert and happy. He is sure you will miss her deeply as you cared for her so well. This is a very sad time for you and he sends you his very sincere sympathy.
I, also, would like to say how sorry I am for you, John - it will be a lonely time for you. You were so good to Muriel and you will miss her deeply. She was a really lovely 'lady' in the very best sense of the term. My sympathy to you. Valerie Owens.
DEAR MUCKER (IT'S A LONG TIME SINCE YOU WERE CALLED THAT!), MURRAY AND JOHN,
VERY SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON MURIEL'S PASSING. I REMEMBER WITH GREAT FONDNESS YOUR PARENTS' KINDNESS TO ME WHEN I WAS AN AWKWARD TEENAGER ALL THOSE YEARS AGO. MURIEL ALWAYS HAD A WORD AND A SMILE FOR ME. I LAST MET HER AT SYBIL BAIRD'S FUNERAL IN 1997, AND YOUR DA AT STAN WILLIAMSON'S IN 2001. IT'S MOVING, IN A WAY, THAT MURIEL SLIPPED THE BONDS OF EARTH A FEW DAYS AFTER PRINCE PHILIP, WHOM I NOTICE SHE BEAT TO A CENTENARY! WHAT AN INNINGS! THEY WERE A GREAT GENERATION OF FIRST-RATE PEOPLE AND WE ONLY SEE AS FAR AS WE DO NOW BECAUSE, TO ADAPT THE FAMOUS APHORISM, WE STAND ON THEIR SHOULDERS, WHERE THEY PUT US. I SEND YOU AND YOURS NOW ALSO MY KINDEST REGARDS, AND THANKS FOR THE PRIVILEGE IT WAS TO HAVE ENJOYED YOUR FRIENDSHIP 50 AND MORE YEARS AGO.
Dear John and family,
As a neighbour, a long time back, your mum always held a special place in my heart. A truly, lovely lady. Colin and I send our sympathy and best wishes to all of you. She will be missed by many.

My condolences to John, Murray and Russell on your Mum's passing. She was a wonderful next door neighbour to us for many years and a lovely warm lady. And what a great cook she was too - we were so lucky that she shared many recipes with our Mum in the 60's.
