Rest in peace, dear Nancy, my beloved cousin. I will always cherish the warmth of your welcome and the many dinners you gave me on summer days, as I reared the turf in my grandparents’ bog in Clonfower, Patrick and Mary- Anne Hopkins.
I have fond memories of 1972, when your brother Mickey married Peg. I still remember Peg arriving in Clonfower in a beautiful sports car, singing Gilbert O’Sullivan’s big hit in Ireland “Alone Again”, (Naturally).
Nancy, that time, in many ways, brought you along into a new era in Clonfower.
You always spoke with such appreciation of the Hopkins Family and in particular for my late mother, Lena Mulhern and her sisters Annie Casey and Chris Gill, who helped raise you and Mickey after the untimely loss of your mother. Your gratitude never faded, and you remembered them fondly throughout the years.
I’m sure they will be waiting with open arms to greet you.
