Nelia was truly loved around the world and I join all those who are shocked and heartbroken by her passing. Nelia was everything I aspire to be and more. We went to high school together and though we both left Canada, I've thought of her often ever since. Beautiful, smart, kind, and talented, equipped with a welcoming smile and an unwavering faith, Nelia brightened the life of anyone she encountered. I will always cherish my memories of running together and literally passing our school's relay baton to Nelia, our anchor. Ian and Christi, my heart aches for you both and you're in my prayers constantly as you mourn your sister. To the rest of the Scheeres family, I am incredibly sorry for your loss and you too are in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, sweet Nelia. You ran the good race and we'll see you again on the other side of the finish line.

I did not know your extraordinary beautiful Nelia but I want to let you know how deeply sad I feel for you - Nelia's parents and whole family and friends. I found myself teary eyed when reading all those heart felt tributes to Nelia and especially seeing just what a beautiful angel she truly was.
God is crying and there are tears in heaven. There is a light that will never go out.

We didn’t know her directly, but were very saddened to hear of her loss. Our deepest condolences going out to her entire family; particularly her parents, brother, and sister, and her friends. She appears to have touched so many in her short time here, and the pain of her tragic loss must be indescribable to those close to her.

Dr. Scheeres was my daughter's ob/gyn doctor and I had the pleasure of meeting him at one of her appointments eight years ago. I am reaching out because my late husband and I lost a 21 year old son in a tragic accident on entering his third year at Western University in London. Only a parent who has felt this loss can understand the devastation within your body, mind and spirit. Dr. Rick Irvin's late wife Kathy ran a group for bereaved parents at the time, because they had lost a daughter to cancer. Within that group I found room to breathe again because others understood my pain, but time does not move quickly. Many people don't know what to say, how to talk to you, and feel upncomfortable. I hope there are many close friends and family who talk of Neila frequently, sharing their memories, favorite stories and so on. I found that very moving to hear our son's name, and see people smile at a memory or two. You are now parents to an angel and may your faith and love help pull you through these coming days. Others around the world are asking through prayer for support for your family, including me.

It is with a heavy heart we are writing this message. We are heartbroken of the sad passing of Nelia. Neila is a President's Volunteer Award recipient AY 20/21 and gave up many hours to volunteer with the Association of Medical Students in Ireland (AMSI), Friends of Médecins Sans Frontières (FoMSF) and the Med Society at UL.
