We were deeply saddened and shocked to learn that our great friend Newton had passed away so suddenly. I first engaged with Newton many years ago in French’s where we were among a small select crew of Smithwicks aficionados. In latter years we remember fondly his warm welcome as the unofficial Maitre d’hotel down in the Taravie. Newton was a gentleman in its truest sense and will be missed by his own family , Maureen Imelda Shane , Grace and Samuel and the many many friend at the Taravie bar and across the country. Rest In Peace Newton our friend - it was as a pleasure to know you .

Take care Dad and thank you for the love and generously that you showed to all of us. Your sense of humour and sarcasm always brightened up our day and your culinary skills and foodie tips still stand me in good stead.
I hope there is a comfortable stool at the end of the bar up there and that St. Peter pours you a nice pint of Smithicks.
Rest easy and you will always be my role model for being the ultimate Gentleman
