Niall CRUMLISH

To Sharon, Olivia, Michael and Evan. I was so sorry to hear of Niall's passing he was a great colleague generous with both his time and knowledge and of course it almost goes without saying a brilliant clinician, who may a huge impact in his career, particularly during his time in Malawi.

Sorry to hear of niall death. Peace for niall. I hope ye all wont be too sad. I was a patient of his for a while.

Niall was a gentleman. He will be deeply missed in SJH by staff and patients alike. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Myself and my family are both saddened and shocked to hear of Dr Niall Crumlish's untimely passing. We had heard he was unwell, but this was totally unexpected for us. As a former patient of his, I felt I was treated very well by him with him. My family were quite happy with same. Deepest condolences to all his family. May he Rest in Peace.

‘Any sign of Dr Crumlish?’ I asked so often of late. It’s fair to say his recent absence was felt as a God shaped hole. Where to start. Hours and hours of consultation and consideration in Inchicore. Careful calibration of medication, kindness and listening. Keeping people like myself in Dublin 8 alive one appointment at a time.
What a good doctor. What a great man.

It was with great sadness we heard of Niall's passing. We always remembered Niall's birth date because he was born six weeks after we got married. We remember many visits to Ballinteer over the years as the boys grew up and Nora and Paddy's visits from Mayo.
Mary Crumlish was famous for saying how much she loved Tom and her boys. She told me that she loved all her daughters-in-law as well. She remembered your mum so specially Sharon.
After Mary's passing, Rick and I were in contact with Niall and then heard the news of his illness from Patrick. Niall and I were on What's app with each other. Over the past two years, he sent many photos of the two of you and of the five of you as well. We could see that Niall was living every moment of his life, as he had always done.
I know you were, in the words of Queen Elizabeth, his 'strength and stay.'
Niall will always be beside you, Olivia, Michael and Evan. His spirit will soar in the ether, a new dimension.

Dear Sharon,
I was so very sorry to hear of the sad passing of your dear husband. My deepest sympathies to you, Olivia, Michael, Evan and all the Crumlish and Brady family. RIP

I knew this day was coming, hoping and praying that it would not, but it does not make it any less heart-breaking when it actually happens and the one of the kindest, considerate and thoughtful human beings is no longer with us.

I was fortunate to call Niall a classmate in UCD, and like others, to benefit from his friendship, his wit, his remarkable command of the english language, and his encyclopaedic knowledge of music and culture.

We disagreed over a few music tastes and recommendations, but with time and patience, Niall was invariable proven correct, and my world viewpoint was broadened that little bit more each time. The night before a friend's wedding in Madeira, Niall helped me work out the correct chords for the Fr Ted theme tune so that I could sneak it in as a communion antiphon on the organ the next day.

I shall hold onto such wonderful memories and marvel at how Niall packed several lifetimes into each day, and how he lived to the maximum. It has been an absolute privilege that our paths crossed and I had the priceless gift of your friendship.

It is heartwarming to find someone you taught when he was a student has become a colleague. So to learn of Niall’s death was especially poignant. As a clinical tutor in UCD from ’94 to ’97, I was undoubtedly one of the least cool people in Niall’s wide orbit. He had already spread wings way beyond medical school, writing for Hot Press and attending every esoteric gig in town. Yet you might never have guessed at that other life. He was memorably friendly, utterly unpretentious and a quietly thoughtful presence among his peers. My deepest sympathies to all his family on their immeasurable loss.

I met Niall on the first day of school in Ballinteer when we were 4 years old. Indeed my first memory of school which I would tell recount years later was Niall tripping unceremoniously over the front step on his way into the classroom - what an entrance!
We quickly became friends after that day, a friendship that would endure a lifetime.
He was a remarkable man, of great intellect, warmth & talent yet so unassuming.
He was someone whose kindness, empathy, knowledge & laughter left a mark on everyone who was lucky enough to know him.
We shared so many memories over the first 30 years of our life in particular and I will carry those with me always.
