May God give you strength to deal with such a tragic situation. I am so sad to hear this terrible news. Sheila - your mom (and other grandparents) will be delighted to have Niall as their angel.
Please God give you strength and let your wonderful memories get you through this terrible time.
Death leaves a wound that no one can heal but Love leaves a memory no one can steal. You have so many beautiful memories of Niall, keep living his dream for that is what he would want from each of you. Until the day we all meet again may he rest in gentle peace.

With ‘5 in a row,’ I can’t even begin to imagine the deepest hopes of Niall McGillicuddy to make the Kerry minors in search of 6! As Peter Keane said today - the prospect of Niall playing minor in 2019 was the ‘predominant thought in his head all day.’ Instead, we try to make sense of the loss of young life with thoughts of ‘what might have been’ while doing our best to celebrate ‘what has been.’ Footballers learn how to play on to the end even when things seem unfair. At the final whistle, we look to see is there any added time? Was the watch wrong? Is it a mistake? We know how the game ticks to an end. In the real-life version, we’re only passing through. And like the Championship of old, there are no back doors. Niall made the best of the life he had, lighting up the pitch with his skills and off it - bringing joy to his family, friends and community. Many stories will now be shared, linking us together as a human family - good days at matches in Killarney or Kenmare. When illness took its toll, bedside gestures became sacred, just being present, watching, wondering, praying. With death, life is never the same again. Yet, your team is more than your players and people rally around, in support, bringing faith, even when they think they bring little. Tom Humphries ended his book ‘Green Fields” with a line fitting for this sad day. “If we have faith in the strength of the root, we have nothing to fear from the full and final blossoming.” Go ndéana Dia trocaire ar a anam.
