Sincere sympathies to Niall's family at this sad time. I had the pleasure of working with Niall on a couple of occasions and his passion for his work, his sport, his faith and his family were clearly evident. A gentleman and a tonic - delighted our paths crossed. May he rest in peace.

Dear Brendan and family. So terribly sad to hear about Niall's passing. What a shock for you all. What a true gentleman he was. We'll keep you all in our prayers. May Niall's sweet soul Rest in Peace.
So sad to hear of the passing of Niall O'Shea from Castlebar. I had the great privilege of getting to know the O’Shea family back in the 1980s when his late father, Eugene, a native of Carrick-on-Suir on the Tipperary-Waterford border, was Inspector of Taxes at Davitt House in Castlebar. Eugene’s wife Teresa, who was Sheerin from Carrandine, Balla, died in June of this year. I recall with affection her brother Pake cycling from Carrandine to Knock Shrine through my home village of Cloonmore on Sundays in my young years.
It was solely through his term as chairman of the Mayo Hurling Board that I got to know Eugene and he was such a kind, genuine and lovely gentleman. All involved in Mayo hurling in those times had a huge regard for the quiet spoken and gentle soul that was Eugene O’Shea. It is clear that Niall inherited so many of those special virtues from his parents. The tributes to him have been genuine, noble and fully deserved. My condolences to his sister Yvonne and his brothers Brendan, Paul and Aidan, on the passing of a truly great Mayo man.

I will always remember Niall as a person with a strong sense of duty and with a steadfast and active faith. He was a skilled lawyer. He had great experience and judgement which he always applied in the interests of the office and of the State. His interest in sport was always to the fore and I always enjoyed listening to his critiques of the great hurling matches of the day. He will be missed as a supportive colleague and friend. I worked with Niall on a number of occasions over the past 10 years. He was a complete gentleman in all of our dealings who was thoroughly professional in his work. Niall's work was informed by a natural empathy and care for others that helped make him such an intuitive lawyer. I was always struck by his simple kindness in remembering the names of my children without fail. He was a genuine individual who was happy to discuss all matters GAA anytime we met or spoke.
May his gentle soul rest in peace and may you all take some small comfort in knowing the high regard he was held in by so many who knew him.
