My sincere condolences to the Staunton family on Niall's passing. May he rest in peace
I just heard the very sad news of Niall’s passing. I extend my deepest condolences to his wife and extended family.
I knew Niall in the mid 70’s in Walkinstown when the Summers seemed endless and our major preoccupation ( in fact everyone’s obsession ) was finding someone with a football and get a game going.
Morning, noon and night the ball was pounded around Walkinstown’s various parks and greens until darkness fell.
Niall loved his soccer and was a fierce competitor catching many by surprise with his robust challenges and steely determination.
If not playing football, we were lying around in the gardens listening to his eclectic music collection of Bowie, Black Sabbath, the Stones and a myriad of other artists.
Niall was always good craic with a generous and warm disposition. He made people feel very welcome and appreciated and he was great to be around. He will be missed by many.
May his soul rest in peace 🙏

He was an extremely popular, well respected and loyal colleague in the Department of Health. Niall was great fun to be around, both in the office and on social occasions. I have so many fond memories of these, including those very rare occasions when I managed to get the better of him on the squash court.

Valerie, Claire, Paul, Andy;
Our deepest sympathy on the loss of an amazing Husband, Dad, Grandad and our true Friend.
I had the pleasure of first meeting Niall in Primary School in Walkinstown, sitting beside each other across a number of years in both primary and then secondary in Drimnagh Castle CBS.
Niall became one of my closest friends as we ventured together through music, concerts, football, holidays etc, our Sunday night's in the Halfway House Walkinstown discussing the weekends football will live forever in my memory.
When Niall first introduced Valerie to Cathy and myself we instantly developed a friendship lasting nearly 40 years, nights out, weekends away in various places in Ireland, Niall's humour was one to behold.
Many a late evening/night was spent 'solving the problems of the world!!
Valerie and Niall were an absolute rock of support to us across the years as life brought it's challenges.
We hope we can return such support to all the Staunton family
Niall's humours catchphrases will always remain in our minds, especially with his descriptions of fine wines etc! He should really have been a wine critic in his spare time.
Niall, thank you for being such a loyal true friend, it was my pleasure back in 1964/65 to first meet you, goodbye my friend.
