My condolences to Nick's family. I have lots of lovely memories of spending time with Nick when he lived in Whitehall, and on his trips to London. Words cannot express how sad we were after hearing of dear Nicks passing and we express our deepest sympathies to you all. Although I didn't see enough of him over the years I thought of him very often and counted him as a friend. His encyclopedic knowledge of music left me staggered and he was and will continue to be a beautiful elegant writer. Nick and I were roommates in Blanchardstown in our late twenties for a time and I have huge and fond memories of his kindness, gentleness and thoughtfulness. I remember our singing sessions and his guitar playing which always to this day remain vivid in my memory. Nick, we will miss you everyday and we will think of you everyday and your values will live long into the future as I instill them in my own family. You are a kind and gentle soul and we will miss you dearly.

I am so sorry that I can’t be with you for the funeral service on Wednesday but I will be thinking of you all and sending my love
I met Nick in UCD in 1989. He was one of my very first friends in Dublin and over the course of those next few years we laughed, grew up, made mistakes and tried to figure out who we were.
I marvelled at how he always seemed to know the next big band before the rest of us even heard of them and I remember him giving me a solo performance of Billy Bragg in Wainsfort Road.
Although we haven’t seen each other for a long time, I thought of Nick often. He left an indelible mark on my life. I was so shocked and saddened to hear news of his passing. I send my heartfelt condolences to the Kelly family and all who loved his gentle soul. I was blessed to have known him.

Rest easy Nick, heartfelt condolences to Joe and all his family.

Nick will be a shining ‘star in heaven’ wandering through the streets of his town blasting out the good tunes with a curious smile on his face.
Lovely memories of a young Nick so passionate about music even then. At peace with the Lord. RIP.
Heartfelt condolences to all the Kelly's on Nicky's untimely death. I will miss him so much. His death has left a gap that cannot be filled. Our last conversation was a planned trip to visit his ancestor the poet Peadar Ó Doirnín's resting place in Louth. In the words of your poetic forefather Nicky, I hope you are now at peace, listening to music 'Na faoilte le muchtaí an brón', 'whose strains all sorrow would still'. Go raibh maith agat as a bheith id chara dílis dom le níos mó ná tríocha bliain, a Niocláis. As a bheith fial, flaithiúil, lách, meabhrach agus gealgháireach i gcónaí. As laethanta meala ár n-óige. Suaimhneas síoraí do d'anam uasal séimh agus leaba i measc na Naomh go raibh agat. Ní dhéanfaidh mé dearúd ort go deo. Sorcha

He was gentle and funny with a profound curiosity that made him so endearing and great fun to be around. I hope your great memories of him will keep you stronger over these days. RIP lovely Nick.
I'm bereft at the passing of Nick, a dear and loyal friend, through thick and thin, of 30 years. In what seems like every pub and venue in Dublin, we talked and laughed, about music and many other things. Always able to see the best in people and with a rare gift for taking the day as it came, Nick was such easy and charming company.

My sincere condolences to Joe (who was beside his brother at countless gigs), to his sisters and extended family, and to all those who were blessed, as I was, to know and love Nick. May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Nick's family at this terrible time. I was lucky enough to become friends with Nick when we worked together in the Irish Independent features.
