Nicholas (Nick) Lawless

to Mai and Lawless Family,
In 1960 I found my Irish relatives in Shantalla. It was a lifelong gift.
Young Phyllis Kelly became my Galway City guide and Willie Kelly, who was grieving the recent loss of his beloved wife Mary Goggins Kelly, took me to Ballinrobe, home-place to meet the Goggins. Later when I met cousin Mai and Nick I was fully pleased and very impressed with Nick's successful bakery business, which I think was based off Eyre Square.and eventually became "Cakes by Nicholas" with their scintillating trademark green delivery van.
Nick was the personification of the Family Man, devoted, hardworking, humble and all embracing. My family and friends from America have always been warmly welcomed by Kellys and Lawless.
On one occasion Nick kindly drove me to a meeting, on Irish immigration to England, with the Bishop in Galway. Instead of accepting an invitation to join me for the brandy and fireside briefing, Nick graciously insisted to wait outside. Then Nick took me to his fave pub with the tatch roof near the Corrib where he unforgettably also briefed me with equal import about what was actually going on at home in Ireland. Nick was plain spoken! I'm still grateful.
