I have just been informed of the sad death of Nick Mackin,he was the epitome of a "gentle man" and one of Louth's greatest gaels. On the field, he was a stylist, with a left foot like a wand.He was a stalwart of the St Kevins club and contributed hugely to their many successes in the mid/late 60's and early 70's. I was struck by the many tributes paid to Nick by many of Louth finest players of the last 60+ year here on rip.ie..he deserved every accolade he has received during his lifetime.. Nick was modest, humble and caring, yet so knowlegable about a wide range of topics.To his extended family and many friends, I offer my sincere condolences.. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

I’m very sorry to hear of Nick’s passing, from a small child to now we were always very aware of how important and precious Nick Mackin is to the St.Kevins, Philpstown and Mosstown communities. Both my Grandfather and Father held the highest respect for Nick and passed that on to the next generations. His book brought many memories back round the home table which brought laughter and education with some other stories brought up from their childhood.
Such a legacy to leave behind is amazing so take comfort in knowing Nick touched so many on his journey through this life. My sincere condolences to all.
