So sad to hear of Nicky's passing. A true gentleman, wit and scholar. May his soul rest in peace.

I was so sad to learn of Nicky's death. A lifelong childhood friend of my Dad, Cyril, he and Mairead featured greatly in my family life growing up. A refreshingly colourful character with an endless supply of the most entertaining and amusing stories. His witty repartee will never be matched. My deepest sympathies to his and Mairead's families on the passing of this great man. Rest in Peace dear Nicky

I wrote a book in the mid 1980's on Frongoch Internment Camp in Wales after the 1916 Rising .It was a time of ahistorical revisionism and oppressive censorship. No sympathy for the plight of northern nationalists. Nicky wrote to me with just the word 'misneach'. A one word epistle to have courage. He was a proud Wexfordman and an intellectual adornment to his county and his country.

Sad to hear about Nicky. He was always entertaining company and we enjoyed his unique insight into Wexford history. Our condolences to his sister and all of his family.

He was a true gentleman of the Press, an oft claimed but rarely true description. Ever welcoming and helpful to journeyman reporters, he assisted me generously in various assignments in neighbouring Wexford. May he rest in peace.

Sad news to learn of the passing of the legend that was Nicky, sympathy to his family and friends. He will be remembered for being able to capture, in a special way, the passing parade of people and events, especially relating to his beloved Loch Gharman. He was a perceptive individual with rare gifts and abilities, not forgetting his wit, all of which he shared with us. Nicky was always very generous with his time, knowledge and encouragement. May he rest in peace.

Very sorry to hear the news of Nicky’s passing. He featured greatly in the childhood memories of our dad, Des Mooney, and they always met up on any of our visits to Wexford. Indeed, Nicky’s lovely sense of humour and great turn of phrase were very evident in his letters to me as recently as 2020. Wishing the family strength and comfort in the good memories.

So very sorry to hear that Nicky had passed. I will always remember him for his great wit, and for our meeting on the Isle of Man the day before the Hume reunion in Ballintlea - when neither of us knew we were related, until a chance conversation about a priest related to both of us, who had died in a motorcycle accident somewhere in Africa. Members of Co Wexford Garden & Flower Club remember Nicky with fondness as he travelled with us for many years as we did our annual Spring tour of gardens in Ireland and U.K. In the beginning, he was the only man other than the coach driver. He entertained us as we travelled and in evenings with stories of history and humour. He will be happy today to be reunited with his beloved Mairead. May they Rest in Peace.
