Nick Spalding

It's so sad to read of Nick's passing. I only knew him via Usenet, where Nick had posted at least since 1996 and as late as Jan 22, 2014. Jerry posted the notice there in alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent and 30 people replied with tributes to Nick, including a representative of the software company whose product we discussed there. All described him as helpful, a gentleman, and a friend. They offered condolences to the family and said he would be missed. I feel the same way. (He also posted to alt.folklore.computers as late as Jan. 27th.)

Nick was very helpful and a gentleman on the Internet; he personally helped me a few times. A sad loss, and sincere condolences.

We never met in person, but I and many others appreciated and enjoyed what Nick wrote over many years to the newsgroup alt.usage.english. I was very sad to learn of his death, and I send heartfelt condolences to all his family. He will be very much missed.

I have been an online acquaintance of Nick's for over 15 years. His quick wit, kindness, intelligence and fine humor have made all our interactions delightful. He will be sorely missed.
