Noel Coogan

My heartfelt condolences to Mary and the Coogan family on the sad passing of Noel, which I regrettably omitted from my previous condolence message.

Noel kindly posted a condolence on RIP.ie when our beloved mother, Kathleen (Cait), passed away last November. When I met him in Navan on January 30th, I had the opportunity to thank him in person, and we shared a lovely conversation reminiscing about times past.

I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of his passing just a few days later. Rest in peace, Noel. Also remembering Noel’s late mother, May, who cared for us so kindly when we were children.

Sincere and prayerful condolences to Mary and family on the death of Noel. I always looked forward to having a chat with Noel most Mondays especially after the Meath games. He was a fund of information and good humour. Be assured of our prayers. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam uasal.

So sorry hear of Noel's death. Recall him with great fondness from my time in the 1980s at the Chronicle. Noel was a regular presence, mischief in his eyes but a great writer and shrewd analyst of sport. May he Rest in Peace.

A legend of the pen when before internet or social media arrived you waited in anticipation to see if you happened to play well did Noel mention you in his weekly report on the matches throughout the county..
With a grass roots knowledge of the whole county and his scouts throughout he was able to produce a report that was really Gospel to the newspaper world at that time and for that...Thanks Noel
