You always greeted me with a big smile and a handshake. It was a pleasure to have crossed paths with you in this world and I have no doubt that our paths will cross again in the next one. Until then, rest easy my friend.
Learned of Noel’s passing with deepest sadness. A wonderful kind man. He will be sadly missed. Deepest condolences and sympathy to Noel’s family and many many friends.
Noel was one of the kindest souls I've ever met. Thanks to being friends with his son. He was always ready to put a smile on your face the moment you were in his company. Theres no words to describe this loss. My condolences to Justin, Tom, Anna (his DiL) Martina, all of Noels Family and of course all his colleagues over the years! A legend has passed away but he will be remebered always by everyone who met him!

Legend RIP
Sincerest condolences to Justin, Tom and all of Noel's family and friends. We were very sad to hear that Noel had passed away. He was one of a kind and a legend. Enjoyed many a great time with him in Mulligans on a quiet afternoon having the laugh and telling jokes. Mulligans won't be the same without him. Great memories. May he rest in peace.
Calling someone a unique character is cliché, but in Noel's case it is actually true. A personality to match his stature, and a person who will be sorely missed by many. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann, agus ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Noel was an absolute gentleman & some laugh to boot. I used to work in The Irish Times so would frequent Mulligans on more than one occasion. Noel made you feel so welcome & you always left in a better mood. He loved & adored his son so much too judging by how often he spoke of him. It’s a sad day around Poolbeg Street - may Noel's soul rest in peace.
Thinking of you all at this time. ❤️ oceans of love being sent from Australia ❤️

Sincere Condolence to Justin, his mother Martina and Tom, and all Hawkins family on sad passing of Noel. He was a gentleman may he rest in peace.
Noel my pal. The laughter and some tears we have shared over the years are precious. My heart and thoughts are with Tom, Justin, Mulligan and your beloved daughter in law.

Tom, Justin, Mulligan, and the staff of Mulligans,
I was devastated to hear of the passing of Noel. He was a legend in Dublin, and a man who a lot of bartenders looked up to for his hospitality and quick wit. I’d have been one to come in for a pint or three after an opening shift and he was always there with a smile on his face cracking jokes with locals and tourists alike. He had a great sense of humour and fashion too of course. He’d have served three generations of my family over the years. There’s not many working in the industry these days who’d be knowledgeable and loved by so many, but he was definitely one of them. He’s the type of bartender myself and many of my friends would love to be. Rest easy now Noel. Cheers for all the great pints over the years.

We've been drinking in Mulligan's for some 35 years and counting. Noel was there from the very beginning. Easy going and clearly popular with the patrons, whether they be old-time regulars or first-time visitors. We have great memories of Noel going back decades, lots of banter between us. He will be missed - Mulligan's will not be the same without him.

Sending sincere condolences to Noel’s family, friends, and everyone at Mulligans. Noel made every visit special with his humor, his stories, and his larger-than-life personality. He was a genuinely wonderful man who brought so much joy to others — and his presence will be missed by all in Mulligans.

Every month I volunteer at the Lighthouse and, after an evening helping people with addiction, my friend Brenda and I would always visit Noel for a pint and a debrief. He told us a story once that I'll never forget.
A few years back, he met a man suffering from the DTs and in a lot of pain. Noel gave him a bottle of wine saying that it would take away all the pain; he also gave him the address of a AA meeting that he attended regularly. And a year later, the man turned up clean and sober, and Noel smiled his big smile. Noel reminded us why we're trying to help the lovely people at the Lighthouse.
Noel - thank you for the laughs, the jokes, the teasing and the memories, we will miss you xxx

Noel was one of the most wonderful characters you could meet. Over 20 years of treating Mulligans as my local even if there may be a year or more in between visits Noel was always there with a smile. My last conversation in October with him went on so long that my friends thought I had left the pub for home. Noel was chatting away to me all about his son Justin and his adored daughter in law and how he was looking forward to many "Fur Grandbabies" in his future. A man who could always make a person not just smile but laugh uproariously. Noel, you will be so so missed. May you rest in laughter. x
Condolences to all the family at this very sad time , Noel was loved by everyone may Noel rest in peace
Condolences to all of Noel’s family on his sad passing. 50 years frequenting Mulligans as reminisced with Noel recently . From one “ grandad “” , who wasn’t a grandad ,may you rest in peace Noel . You were one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
We are from Texas where the common boast is “Everything is bigger and better in Texas.” But we know that nothing was bigger than Noel’s heart, and nothing was better than to walk into Mulligan’s after a long flight over and see Noel behind the bar knowing that the best pint of Guinness was soon to be enjoyed along with his company. To Noel, we say thank you. Thank you for the many good times and tender kindnesses. We will never see the likes of you again. Our deepest condolences to Noel’s family, friends, crew and patrons at Mulligan’s. God Bless -
A national treasure 💚

Deepest sympathy to the Hawkins family and especially to Justin and Tom - and to all Mulligans’ staff - on Noel’s passing.
Noel was such a great soul, a character, a funny charming, kind person.
Loved his stories, his jokes, his travel recommendations – we had a great long weekend in Rome based solely on Noel’s tips.
I will always hold fond memories of Noel greeting me upon arriving into Mulligans with “You’re only gorgeous!”. Truth is he was the gorgeous one, inside and out.

A light has gone out on Poolbeg street, a naturally gifted wordsmith has left the building. What will we do, what will we do now; Noel the quintessential dubliner, go gently now into that good night.

Sincere condolences to the extended Hawkins family on the sad passing of Noel. I knew Noel well from the 1980's when I was a frequent visitor to Mulligan's, that venerable establishment on Poolbeg Street. He was always in great humour and would greet all of his customers with a smile or a laugh, while regaling them with his outlandish stories and his eclectic string of jokes and witticisms. As chief custodian of Mulligan's for nearly fifty years, Noel was truly a one-off, a gentleman and a scholar, whose likes will never be seen again. May his gentle soul rest in peace (RIP).

Our family in recent months lost a family member who also had a great way with people, be it jokes, quips n making everyone feel better about their day, so it just struck me as i learned of this man's passing as to the similarities, and how it affects those that cared for them.We can't get back time but we will all have the memories for the remainder of it..at least there's that..I'm sorry for your immense loss..Rest peacefully Noel.
