It has been shocking to lose Noel so young. He was one of the best. I have lovely memories of him growing up, especially his warmth. He had a lovely, dry sense of humour.
I was so happy for him when he found Therese, and got on so well with Kate, Emma and Beth. My heart goes out to them. Also to our beloved aunt Bernie and to our cousins Paul and Patrick.
I will imagine him happily reunited with Therese now.
Shocking news. Very fond memories of working with Noel while he was at Imperial College London, an internationally leading academic, the world of structural integrity will miss him greatly. Condolences to his family.

Noel was my supervisor when I worked on an industry funded research project at UL. I was in Limerick only for little more than a year, but we kept in touch occasionally over time. Noel was an excellent academic and a great gentleman (I will always remember his ties, words of wisdom and sense of humour). I cannot believe that he is gone! My deepest heartfelt sympathies to his mum, brothers, stepdaughters and all the dear family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May you find solace in all your memories together. I know Noel from our work with ASME’s PVP conference. I count it a privilege to have worked with him, off and on, for the last 20 years or so. He was such a unique and engaging person. I am saddened by his loss. He is deeply missed.
My deepest condolences. As others have said, Noel was a generous and caring person. I was pleased to know him as a learned colleague and friend early in my career. He had a way of listening that was calming and he often had valuable counsel. When he had nothing specific to offer there was still a warm smile and good humor to buoy you up. Godspeed old friend.

I've known Noel since his graduate school days at Brown. A talented intellect,
researcher, teacher, colleague, Noel was a gentle soul taken from us all far too soon. My sincerest condolences to his family on this shocking loss.
I’m deeply shocked and saddened by the news. Noel was my PhD supervisor in 2008-2012, and my mentor for many years after that. He was a huge source of inspiration to me and many others.

My deepest sympathy to Noel’s family. I was very shocked and sad to hear of his passing. I will be forever grateful to Noel for giving me to opportunity to study for my PhD with him as my supervisor. He’s professionalism, knowledge and dedication to his field was exemplary. He had a great sense of humour and always found time to help anybody that needed it.
