Another vacant space at another family table.
I never knew Noel but I slightly recall meeting
his late Dad Seamus . I am aware that Noel made
a massive contribution to our town -New Ross.

All deaths are regretted but a premature death
is shocking irrespective of the deceased prominence.

Sincere sympathy to his wife Sinead - his son Seamus
his mother Myra and his siblings

Noel's presence will undoubtedly be missed by his
colleagues and especially by all in our yellow belly county
who came into contact with him in any sphere
during his short life. RIP.

A man of honour has left. May his legacy be that many, no all, learn from his words and actions that respect for all is paramount. His intellect, fairness and even-tempered courtesy was most pleasant to observe. The light of heaven Noel and may it shine to your loved ones.
Noel was much more than a gentleman. He was strenght that comes with kindness. Nobel in his character. He not only knew the laws of this land but more importantly, he knew and shared the sense of what true justice and fairness is all about. An essential ingredient of life many lack today. The loss of Noel , is like loosing the power to speak. No words can say it fully. It will be difficult to accept his passing because he is most needed in this life, but has been called to higher status . God and heaven have truly gained a guardian of might and the gifts that Noel possessed. Thank you Noel for all your goodness. I pray for all your family and for all of us, who will miss you the most.
My deepest sympathy to Noel’s wife, son, mother and family.I was very sad to hear of Noel’s death.
A gifted man who touched the Nation, his contributions will be sadly missed.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Noel Whelan. Below is an excerpt from a poem (by the Irish poet, John O'Donohue), which may provide some small consolation:

On The Death Of The Beloved

By John O’Donohue

Though we need to weep your loss,
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts,
Where no storm or night or pain can reach you.

Your love was like the dawn
Brightening over our lives
Awakening beneath the dark
A further adventure of colour.

The sound of your voice
Found for us
A new music
That brightened everything.

(Etc.)

He was always so pleasant and so polite and so interesting to listen to.
It really is a tragedy when you think of what he could have contributed to public discourse and politics in Ireland in the future.
It is of course such a personal loss to his family and my sincere condolences
I didn’t know Noel Whelan personally. I was in UCD at the same time and was always engaged in the way he spoke and led, and engaged students in the societies he was active in. I watched and read in awe during his fascinating career and how he cared for people, and in how he was so key to marriage equality referendum. He addressed Women for Election one evening and I was privileged to hear him speak. You could hear a pin drop in that room in the Boston College when he spoke. To his wife and family, I can’t imagine how losing him feels and I hope you find strength in the weeks and months ahead. RIP.
I never met Noel but he will always stand out in my memory of the Marriage Equality campaign. His calm clear commentary on various media played a major part in influencing the undecided. I know he had many other achievements in his life, but for this he made history and changed lives. . Sympathy to all his family & friends.
