Let me start by sharing my hope that you each can rest today & reflect on a tremendous mother, grandmother & friend. As I reflect on my childhood days there are no “big events” that didn’t include memories of Mammy Walsh.
My memories are all built on the shoulders of a strong network of fabulous humans. But much of its direction was built on the wisdom of the mothers of our neighbourhood. Mrs Keane, Flanagan, Healey & Mrs Walsh*3 (differentiated by nods to their general location left central or right of Dan’s fields) & mammy Cotter
On reflection these stalwarts of our neighbourhood underpinned tremendous effort. Quietly living a god fearing life one calving, milking or hay season at a time.
Imagine a world today where 8 women arriving as young girls to their respective marital homes learning to pull” the way they did? No ego, just work.

From a child’s eye, I remember them live in quiet society of strong hard working husbands lots of children & fires cooking big heavy pots of food that always fed me with something when my impish face would boldly stride in under the pocket of my fathers work coat.

I loved hearing that Dan & you all met at your home where you so reverently respected your beautiful mother.
Today, let me invite each of you to your best memories & moments. Thank you each for being beautiful neighbours and let’s commit & stride to passing forward something from your mother’s stoicism & kind nature
