Sorry to hear of Norman's passing. I used to do a bit of typesetting for him many years ago and he was always a very nice man to deal with. His long life was a reward for the kindness he showed to others. My condolences to all of Norman's family and may he rest in peace.

Norman was a lovely man and a true Brother.

He was a great source of support to my parents and to me. Indeed, my late mother was deeply fond of him for decades. He was generous with his time and was particularly generous in providing book-bindings to me.

I have missed him as he prepared for his ultimate journey. I hope we meet again some day.


Michelle, I trust you will be comforted by the supportive words of his old friends. It will not diminish your loss, but may help alleviate the pain somewhat.

On my own behalf and on behalf of St. John Ambulance Ireland, I wish to offer my sincerest condolences to the Rooney family on the passing of Norman, RIP. Norman and I are of a different generation in St. John but, as I entered the senior ranks, Norman was concluding his service, having risen to serve as Deputy Commissioner. Nonetheless, I appreciated his occasional wise counsel when I sought it out, his regular attendance at our annual Ecumenical St. John's Day Services and his joining us, per-COVID, at our Summer and Christmas gatherings for retired and long-serving members. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace after a life well-lived.
