Nuala HYLAND

Just learned last week of Nuala's death. Sincere sympathy to her family. Nuala was a great friend of my Aunt Rose. Have fond memories of her many visits to Sligo with Rose, and Maura Coakley. Good memories of lovely people.

Just learned today of the passing Nuala , deepest condolences to her family and friends. Lovely bridge player where I met her in Beechwood, always very pleasant and good bridge company.

Deepest condolences to dear Nuala's family & her many friends. I had pleasure of knowing Nuala when she moved after retirement to live in Vergemount Park, Clonskeagh, where I grew up. She was a good friend of my parents & like them an active member of the Donnybrook Active Retirement Association where Nuala took on the crucial role of treasurer. I kept in touch with Nuala after our Vergemount Park house was sold on the death of my mother & often visited her there. We had an Athlone connection in that Nuala was a good friend of my mother's brother, Felim Walls, who had a business in Connaught Street, Athlone, & was a gifted musician. Nuala & I exchanged books on many subjects & she kindly gifted to me a number of her books, including several re Athlone, when she moved from Vergemount Park to the Holy Family Residence. I'm most grateful to Angela, whose mother was a first cousin of Nuala's mother, for kindly keeping me aware of Nuala's alas poorly state in recent weeks. Still her passing came as a great shock. Nuala was life long friend. She was a wonderful person and a wonderful friend. I met her when we both started working in the Revenue Department as young women. She always thought about everything very deeply, she had a very analytical mind. She had a great sense of fun and was very kind to eveyone.

I’m so sad to hear of Nuala’s passing, I have kept in touch with Nuala and seen her just before Christmas. My late father Des Joyce grew up for a large part of his childhood in 3 St, Brigid’s Tce. I spent many an afternoon as a child being brought into visit Mrs Hyland and Maeve. Fr Jim whenever he was home came to visit us on the Navan Road. Nuala over the past couple of years has been sharing memories of her family and growing up with my Dad in Athlone. She spoke often about James and Annie. So many memories, Nuala is at peace, home with her Family. I will miss her, rest in peace Nuala.

Nuala was my deputy when I was the manager of Athlone Tax District between 1977 and 1987. Despite the fact that I was some 20 years younger (and a male!) she was unconditionally loyal and dug me out of several 'holes' which i had created for myself through lack of experience. And advice was invariably given with a smile on her face!

At Gramophone recitals, the late Mrs Frances O'Regan wrote down music played by presenter and would phone Nuala on the following Sunday night to discuss and delight in music presented. Over many years Nuala, was a welcomed visitor to us all, as indeed were Mrs H, Maeve, Fr Jim and Frank & Carol. We have fond and happy memories of those visits and especially when Nuala visited us in Spain and attended our wedding as guest of honour.
It was a friendship, long, loyal, and loving throughout all the years and the generations from the days when our Mother Glo and Nuala worked in the Tax Office in Athlone. Nuala would recount those days so vividly, and in only her own witty way.
We will very much miss her lovely, warm and welcoming smile. Nuala was very knowledgeable and a great conversationalist, funny and quick of wit and never short with her encouragement and advice. Sentiments recognizable by one and all of those who had the good fortune to know Nuala.
