Oliver and I were in school together sharing our Leaving Cert class with seven others. Oliver was the fun guy at school and I have many happy memories of walking to school with him and our pal Tommy Veale, neither of whom have I seen since we left school in 1967.

He was father of the bride for a mock wedding and he played the part brilliantly.
I then got to meet him on the last few years and he always was smiling and singing and you felt better after chatting to him. I hope ye take solace in the joy he brought to ye and all who met him.

One of the brightest lights on earth has become the brightest star in the sky … my sincere condolences to the Stapleton family and especially to you Carole on the loss of your strong, gentle and loving husband Oliver - from Shows performing in the Limerick Inn to the Two Mile In. - The Savoy is where I met Oliver for the first time, I was performing Annie etc in my early teens and it was a show produced by the fabulous Pat Mc Gann - I was in awe as I had met Elvis in real life who took the house down also singing Bad boy Leroy Brown, and he filled the Savoy Theatre with his huge talent and electric personality - it was the big time !!! I will think of you all in your enormous loss and light a candle in his memory today, So sorry to have missed the funeral to give my condolences personally, he was one of life’s treasures. I remember first meeting Ollie at our Panto rehearsals in the late 80s and his larger than life ‘dame’ character and his quick quips. In the 90s in secondary school I endured his informative & hard hitting drugs safety talk, he knew how to tell a good story and keep you intrigued. A true gentleman and an excellent entertainer. No doubt he will be sorely missed by many. Wishing you all peace and comfort during this difficult time.

From the first time I saw him dressed up as a character in a Cecillian Musical Society performance in the Crescent Theatre to him scarying my Head Master during a School Drug Awareness Talk, he was so engaging and fair in his conversation.
