I only got to know Ollie personally less than four years ago, but for more than 30 years he has been, to me, a favourite soccer personality, putting spirit into his teams, defying odds, challenging bad refereeing decisions and entertaining spectators. His popularity is universal among soccer support.I was delighted when he joined Galway United and with the spirit he brought to the team.
I had noticed his health deteriorated a couple of months before his diagnosis became public,but his death came to soon. His death coincided with my arrival to visit my son in Canada and I followed the tributes and masses online, Much tributes should be redirected to Anita because her support made it all possible. He taught me technical graphics at St Eunans college. He was a great teacher & I remember him always doing a rendition of Billy Joel's Piano man at the school concert. It was a great performance.

More than 30 years ago, my Donegal colleague were already talking Ollie Horgan's soccer achievements and I admired his "against the odds" successes and his sideline performances over the years. Ollie's spirit infected his teams, bringing out their best in games. I was delighted that Galway United was the last team to get an injection of Ollie's spirit and that I got know him personally over the last three years on his visits to Salthill and in Deacy Park. I missed the funeral but, online in Canada I joined in. The tributes to Ollie, in the Mass, also in St Eunan's, the media and online were great and deserved, but his wife, Anita, is equally deserving of the ,trlbutes because Ollie needed, and got the support that allowed him contribute so much. My sincere sympathy to Anita and the family on his, too soon, departure.
