Oonagh had a great outgoing personality yet was also a kind and sensitive soul. We first ‘met’ as newborns in Cavan General Hospital and I was the quiet one but we went on to have many adventures together; in National school playing roller skates (while crossing the road of course), climbing trees, hanging around Breffni Park, making soda stream, singing Michael Jackson, the Gaeltacht, first year in university, working abroad and hiding in wardrobes (it was a long story). Even going grocery shopping as students involved three of us singing Demis Russos Forever and Ever! My heart is breaking for her family and all the O’Connor’s. “Ar dheis Dé go Raibh a hAnam.

I was lucky enough to know Oonagh growing up in Cavan, mainly through gymnastics. She was a massive character in the gym, I remember her belly laugh and working so hard at her own improvement and helping others in the club out too. I remember her having endless patience with me working on back walkovers trying to impart some of her fearless commitment to me as a wobbly child! The batdance stands out in my memories and her coming back many years later to catch up. You could often hear her break in to song or laughter across the gym. She had the most mischievous laugh.

She is gone too soon, may she rest in peace. Sending all who loved her our love.
