Oscar O'Donnell

Oscar, I’m struggling with finding the words. Nothing I say can convey the loss we all feel. We especially think of your family and Lorna all the time. Special people. All the lads miss you, it’s hard to not get choked up whenever someone mentions you. Yes, you were a buzzer, but you were so much more than just a jokester. Loyal to a fault and always there for your mates no matter what was going on. One thing that has come out of your passing is how grateful people were to know you. Lots of stories about your jokes, friendliness and I hope that’s been a comfort to your family. It’s difficult to put into words what almost forty years of friendship meant to me. It’s mostly the quiet moments of the day when we miss you. Eric feels the same way too. We all miss the banter texts and the random messages about Kilkenny hurling. Coming home will never be the same but I will come see you soon. Even with the distance, you tried to stay in contact or bet on American sports ! Watching real football will never be the same, but, I did join the QPR supporters club of Ireland and now get updates all the time! Thanks for being a best mate to so many of us. We love you, we miss you friend!

Deepest to all of Oscar’s family & friends on his untimely passing. I worked with Oscar on many occasions when assigned to jobs in Dublin. There was always endless craic n banter and many text/whatsapp exchanges, over the years.
I joined his funeral online, and he was the same guy to us in Eir as he was to his family and friends.

Oh dear god Oscar, it was lovely to speak/work with you on the phone, you were a gem and a true Dub - oh dear god i can't say how much this is sad, sending condolences to your family and friends and the salt of the earth which are your coworkers. Devastated.

Oscar you'll be sorely missed. You were a legend in every sense of the word. I listen back to voice messages of funny anecdotes and hilarious situations and just feel lucky to have known you and called you a friend. Rest now we'll see each other again. Sincere condolences to all of his extended family and friends on the incredibly sad passing of Oscar.

We started work as apprentices on the same day in 2011, and Oscar's personality stood out from the start. The man with the big voice and even bigger character - there was never a dull moment when Oscar was around. Many months we spent all over the country on storm repair, and Oscar would have everyone set up for the day with a laugh over breakfast, and he would be there with a funny tale to tell to pick up everyone's spirits again in the evenings. He had a knack for connecting with people no matter where he went, and once you met Oscar, you didn't forget him. A gentleman with a polite word for everyone, he had a great ability to ensure those around him were in good form, even on days when he wasn't feeing the best himself. He truly enjoyed life, and regaled us with many a tale from his travels, never knowing what he was going to come out with next.

Goodbye, "my tall friend", you will be missed, and never forgotten.
