To Pat and family,
On behalf of my Dad, Tony Tynan, I would like to express deepest sympathy on the loss of your husband Owen. ( Dad is ill in hospital at the moment). I know Dad was a very good friend of Owen for many years and valued his friendship. May he rest in peace.
So sorry to hear of Owen's passing. We worked together at Bewley's in the 80's. He was such an interesting and hugely intelligent character. Such a great loss. Sincere condolences to his heartbroken family. Rest in Peace Owen.
Pat, Donal, Gareth & Owen, we were all so sorry to hear of the passing of the legendary Owen. So many fantastic memories of happy times spent with the Dawsons, often punctuated by hilarious OBD moments. A great friend to mum for so many years also.

Thinking of you all.
Dear Pat and Ciara
I was really sorry to hear from Mary that Owen had passed away. I’m sorry I’m not able to be at the funeral. I hope ur both getting lots of support.
Big hugs to both of you xxx
I was so saddened to hear the news of Owen’s death. We studied journalism together at DCU a quarter century ago and connected over our shared love of tennis and books. Owen was a character, in fact, an outright charmer - full of energy and curiosity. We had such fondness for him in our class. I last saw him at a DCU reunion he instigated in 2023 and he’d lost none of his spirit. My deepest sympathy to Pat and his family. Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.
Deepest sympathy to all the Dawson family on the death of Owen. Good memories of tennis and Squash trips with Owen. May he rest in peace

A great man has left us and we are deeply saddened by his passing.
I got to know Owen when we worked together in Bewleys in the early 1980s. Our friendship lasted all these years, whether having dinners or coffees. Great conversation was the bond that gelled us, never a dull moment. He had a hugely enquiring mind, a love of the English language and was a bit of a polymath. He had a great ability to send himself up even though not everybody saw it. He once embarked on writing a book entitled “Famous People Who Knew Me”. Regrettably he never finished it. He was a great singer and loved music. Our last get together just three weeks ago was with his good friend Jim and me on our guitars singing for an afternoon in his home. OBD will be sadly missed.
My sincere condolences to Pat, Donal, Garret, Owen and family

We always enjoyed meeting Owen. Intelligent , charming, mischievous and generous: he had it all!
This Friday we will find the best Tea Shop in Venice and drink to his life and legacy.
I first met Owen when he worked with Declan Meehan and Claire Darmody on East Coast radio. He was an expert on tea, which I never touched. My subject was wine, and Owen was teetotal. From these unlikely beginnings a friendship began. We would meet for dinner 4-6 times a year. I always looked forward to these evenings.

Owen was one of the great conversationalists, constantly probing, asking interesting questions, and expounding on a wide variety of subjects, always accompanied by an amusing story. He was opinionated and grumpy, kind and thoughtful. The last year or so were not easy for him, nor for Mrs. Dawson (as we called her) nor, I imagine, his family, who he adored. We had our last dinner together on the 14th January. It was, as ever, a great evening. It finished with him talking proudly about his family and the wonderful Christmas they had enjoyed together. RIP
Dear Donal, Gareth, Owen and to your lovely mum, my sincere condolences on the passing of your father. I remember saying hello to him many times during our years living in Lawnswood Park. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Patricia and Family,
My very sincere sympathy on the sad occasion of Owen's passing. He was a remarkable man and I am proud to have had him both as a friend and as an Irish Times colleague. He was peerless as a sub-editor; learned, painstaking, scrupulous in the use of language - and always the best of company. I was privileged to know him.
