Saddened to hear of Owen's passing. He was one of the most distinguished members of Air Corps SAR over its long history. Always willing to impart knowledge and help others.

I remember Owen well from my time in the Aer Corps and his genuine commitment to SAR. Sincere condolences to Owens' family and friends. Rest in peace.

Deepest condolences to the Sherry Family. Served with Owen in the 80s & 90s. A True Gent and friend. Great memories of him during my SAR course in 84 and after. Well deserved DSM for a difficult rescue in the 70s. May he rest in peace. Till we meet again.

An Alouette journey with Owen.

The Helicopter turned as Owen made the call.
Calling out "Mark the spot and return on the same leg".
A body was spotted in a field we had just passed by.
It was a bright summer's day we were returning to base from a successful photo sortie in a specific Munster AO.
Owen who was always on the ball sitting up front in the alouette caught sight of a body lying on the ground motionless in one of the fields we had just passed by ..
A spot reference was made and the pilot made a turn and the search began.
Within a couple of minutes we were on site body still on the ground motionless as we drew closer doors open ready for action it suddenly dawned on us ..this poor summer scarecrow had fallen over in the recent wind..we were almost tempted to land and stand Mr Scarecrow up but we didn't want to scare the locals landing the Helicopter in the vicinity..
We mused about it the whole journey home and what could have been.

May he rest in peace a true professional and a gentleman.
